The next step in our cloud partner journey

I’ve talked before about simplifying cloud adoption and giving our customers the choice and flexibility to ensure a simple and predictable migration to the cloud. This week, we took the next step on this journey announcing Telstra as the Australian host of vCloud Air – VMware’s new hybrid cloud service.
We’re seeing strong demand locally, with IDC citing a 47 per cent growth in the infrastructure as a service (IaaS) market value over the past year alone. Organisations want to migrate workloads quickly and seamlessly to meet business needs and a hybrid cloud strategy means significant cost savings, which we know to be a priority for all.
vCloud Air is a public cloud platform built on vSphere. It enables customers to extend existing virtual machines (VMs) to the public cloud using your favorite management tools or start up new application VMs directly in the cloud. As Australia continues to adopt virtualisation technologies, we believe our customers will be quick to adopt vCloud Air.
So what does this mean for our customers? Essentially, there will now be more cloud service options as part of your relationship with Telstra. These services will enable you to move between private and public clouds seamlessly with next to no impact to the performance of the network.
This is an exciting time for our customers, for us and for our partners – this alliance with VMWare is an extension of our cloud strategy – to form best-of-breed technology alliances and unified service delivery to simplify hybrid environments for our customers.
This builds on the recent announcement that Telstra customers would be able to connect their on-premises data centres to Microsoft’s Azure platform as well as the key milestones we’ve hit with Cisco in 2014. Announcing in March that we would be the world’s first Cisco partner to leverage Cisco’s global cloud platform September saw us extend this further, expanding our Intercloud into Hong Kong and Singapore.
