I’ve lived in Tasmania for the best part of 20 years, and I love it. Most of that has been in Hobart, and there is always something amazing to enjoy in this town – from the breathtaking mountain ranges and our beautiful waterfront, to modern art and the famous Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. My family and I feel very lucky to be part of this community.
So it was pretty special to be able to announce yesterday that Telstra will be investing in this great state with our new nbn Centre of Excellence in Hobart – and that as the network expands, we’ll creating up to 100 new jobs to help us support customers nationally.
I’ve worked for Telstra for many years, and over that time I’ve witnessed some incredible changes to the way we do business and operate in local communities. This is the latest, and it’s a significant one.
By establishing the nbn Centre of Excellence here, we’re recognising that Tasmania is leading the way when it comes to one of the most important technologies of our time. The NBN rollout here is one of the most progressed in Australia, and there’s a growing sense of pride and excitement that we’re ahead of the curve when it comes to nbn technology. It means we’ll be even better placed to provide you with the best possible experience when you’re ready to take up services on the nbn.
From early December, when you call with queries about the nbn, you’ll speak to an expert here in Hobart who can advise whether you’re eligible to connect, explain the ins and outs of how the nbn works, help you choose the right plan and get your NBN connection started – all in a single call.
Telstra is already on the ground showing the community how the nbn works with our Store on Wheels visits, nbn Experience Van, community days and information kiosks, and I can’t wait to see the nbn Centre of Excellence up and running soon too.
It makes me proud to know that while Telstra is already a big part of the community in Tasmania, we’re investing even more and strengthening our local presence even further.
I look forward to sharing news about employment opportunities early in the new year.
