Many people use public transport for differing reasons – work, shopping or appointments. Whatever the reason, everyone just wants to get from point A to B safely, comfortably and quickly. We’ve teamed up with the Victorian Department of Transport to implement new tech to help passengers with their journey decision making before they arrive at their stop.

RideSpace is a mobile-optimised website that the team at Telstra Purple teamed up with a range of partners to develop. RideSpace helps passengers figure out how busy a particular train station or service might be. That way, passengers can figure out if they board if they’ll have to stand, or if they may be able to grab a seat.

In the same way that technology is used to forecast the weather, this new app will allow us to forecast public transport usage to help you find out when it’s best to ride. Historical usage data combined with input from the myki ticketing platform is used to project an idea of what’s coming down the tracks for their next service.

We’re also respecting the safety of your private information. As we developed the app we used our experience around delivering insights from aggregated and anonymised data.

Knowledge is power, and this new trial looks to give passengers the insights they need to access public transport services in an informed and intelligent way.
