Removing CAPTCHA to give access for all

If you’re a regular reader of Telstra Exchange you might have noticed something different about this page today. Have a look around and see if you can spot it.

It’s not the colour spectrum at the top, it’s not the page layout… it’s that there’s no longer a field at the bottom of the page asking you a question to prove you’re a human and not a robot before you can post a comment.

That’s right, we’ve killed CAPTCHA.

Why? Because we want all our customers to have a brilliant experience with us, so I am really pleased that we’re helping people with vision impairment by removing CAPTCHA from our online Telstra pages. (more…)

Today, this idea received a $2.4 million boost with the announcement of five new Telstra Foundation community partnerships. While our partners individually tackle different issues, collectively they share a commitment to leverage digital technology to drive social outcomes. Telstra Kids Fund – a million ways to show we care

For over a decade, Telstra Kids Fund has been supporting the little things that make a big difference to kids’ lives: everything from worm farms to reading nooks, bouncing balls to veggie patches, educational resources to arts and crafts.

Backed by the Telstra Foundation, this grassroots community program has provided thousands of grants to local non-profit groups, helping more than a million kids to play and learn.

At the heart of the program are Telstra employees who nominate where the dollars are donated and help direct the company’s philanthropic giving.  Telstra Kids helps connect children with a brilliant future in the communities where Telstra staff live and work. (more…)

Changing the face of charity with Chuffed

The percentage of young people that donate to non-profits has declined steadily in the past 30 years. While Gen Y are socially conscious and want to contribute, they are not engaging in traditional fundraising campaigns. That’s where Chuffed comes in.

Chuffed is Australia’s first non-profit crowdfunding platform and aims to connect socially conscious Gen Y donors with non-profit fundraising campaigns. What distinguishes this platform from others is that all the money raised goes to the cause.

The Telstra Foundation has invested $460,000 over two years in seed funding for Chuffed. This is being used to establish the platform and up-skill hundreds of non-profit organisations to crowdfund online. (more…)
