The Google Pixel has been through a number of iterations, but none are quite as impressive as the new Pixel 5. With 5G to boot, it’s an incredible device that deserves your attention. Here’s why you’ll love it.

Power for days

All-day battery life is so last year. Google knows that, which is why the Pixel 5 allows you to add up to an extra day to your all-day adaptive battery with Extreme Battery Saver. Extreme Battery Saver helps your Pixel to last up to 48 hours when you really need it. [1] This mode learns what your favourite apps are to prioritise where your power goes. That’s thanks to some nifty work from Google, and a whopping 4080mAh cell in the Pixel 5 to keep you going longer.

And you don’t have a monopoly on all that power, either. With Battery Share, you can wirelessly give power to a friend or power your other devices.[2]

Your photos made better with AI

The camera has always been where the Pixel models have shone through, and this year’s upgrades are worth writing home about. The Pixel 5 features two rear-facing cameras: a Dual Pixel camera with Optical Image Stabilisation and a 77-degree field-of-view, backed up by a 16-megapixel Ultrawide camera with an awesome 107-degree field-of-view.

As usual, the cameras go hand-in-glove with Google’s incredible computational photography smarts to make your images sing. Night Sight is back for unreal photos when the sun goes down and the stars come out and, now with Night Sight in Portrait mode, you can capture beautifully blurred backgrounds even in extremely low light. HDR+ has been improved to ensure that colour, lighting and more are all adjusted automatically to bring out the best in bright shots, and lens correction means that any lens distortion created by wide-angled cameras is fixed automatically.

You get other nifty new auto-awesome features like Portrait Relighting for applying filters after you’ve taken the snap, and Cinematic Pan on your videos for a cinematic look on your videos.

Going for the shot is also safer than ever with Pixel 5 thanks to an IP68[3] dust and water resistance rating that helps keeps your phone safe from unexpected accidents.

All made better with Australia’s best 5G

The Pixel 5 is the ultimate Google phone, and what would the ultimate Google phone be without Australia’s best 5G?

Our 5G is now in more places, too. We’re on a mission to bring better connectivity to everyone, especially with our 5G. We’re working to grow our footprint to 75% by June next year, and today we’ve passed an important milestone on that journey with over 2000 sites now live covering more than 41 per cent of Australia’s population.

We’ve made a commitment to roll out our exciting new 5G capabilities to more areas across metro, regional and rural Australia, and that’s exactly what we’re doing.

More than 12 million Australians now live, work or pass through our 5G coverage footprint daily, giving them access to our superfast network at a time when connectivity matters more than ever.

There are now over 1400 suburbs across the country with more than 50 per cent 5G coverage, and we recently celebrated our 2000th live site in Airlie Beach in Queensland’s Whitsundays. It now joins more than 60 other cities and towns in the country where the 5G rollout is underway.

To find out where 5G is going to land near you, check out our new Mobile Coverage Maps that show not only where 5G is now, but where it’s being built in the coming months.

Pricing

The Google Pixel 5 is out now, and available on our awesome post-paid mobile plans that offer consumer and small business customers greater flexibility with month-to-month plans; no excess data charges in Australia and the ability to personalise your plan through add-ons. Things you need to know

1 For ‘All day’: Maximum battery life based on testing using a mix of talk, data, standby and use of other features. Testing was conducted on two major US carrier networks using Sub-6 GHz non-standalone 5G (ENDC) connectivity. For ‘Up to 48 hours’: Maximum battery life based on testing using a mix of talk, data, standby and use of limited other features that are default in Extreme Battery Saver mode (which disables various features including 5G connectivity). Testing was conducted on two major US carrier networks. For both claims: Pixel 4a (5G) and Pixel 5 battery testing was conducted by a third party in California in mid-2020 on pre-production hardware and software using default settings, except that, for the ‘up to 48 hour claim’ only, Extreme Battery Saver mode was enabled. Battery life depends upon many factors, and usage of certain features will decrease battery life. Actual battery life may be lower.

2 Designed to charge Qi-certified devices. Use of Battery Share significantly reduces Pixel battery life. Cases may interfere with charging and will reduce charging speed. Charge speeds may vary. See g.co/pixel/wirelesscharging for more information.

3 Pixel 5 has a dust and water protection rating of IP68 under IEC standard 60529. Charger and accessories are not water-resistant or dust-resistant. Water and dust resistance are not permanent conditions and may be compromised due to normal wear and tear, repair, disassembly or damage.
