The best thing about the Google Pixel is that it gets better and better over time. With feature drops, your phone gets a boost of helpfulness thanks to software updates. Here’s what’s new in December.

How to get feature drops

You can see your device’s Android version number and security update level in your Settings app. You’ll get notifications when updates are available for you. You can also check for updates. Learn how to see and update your Android version.

You’ll get new features, tricks and apps on your Pixel 3, Pixel 4, Pixel 4a/4a with 5G and Pixel 5 as time goes on1.

Group movie nights are back on

December’s feature drop includes what’s called Duo Screen Sharing2. With this new feature, you’ll be able to join a video call on Google Duo via your Pixel 3 or newer phone, and share a video that the whole chat can watch.

Unlike other video sharing apps, you don’t need to open the video in a separate app. You all watch the video at the same time, in the same chat window! It’s being together without being together.

With Duo Screen Sharing, you can get closer to the ones you love in new and fun ways.

Get the most out of your phone

Adaptive Response is coming to your Pixel1. You’ve already got a load of great gear on your Pixel, and Adaptive Response is here to make it sing for you.

It takes your phone’s hardware and software and optimises them automatically to your environment to make your experience the best it can be each time.

With Adaptive Connectivity on Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a with 5G can help to save battery life by switching between 5G2 and 4G based on the app that you’re using. It’ll choose 4G for things like browsing the web or sending texts, and switch to 5G when you’re watching films or downloading large files.

And with Adaptive Sound on Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a with 5G, your audio sounds great no matter what environment you’re in3. Plus, improved location and safety features will keep you on the right track. And now you can use Google Lens to translate right in your phone’s browser4.

Vault the language barrier with Google Lens

With this month’s feature drop you can now have your Pixel 3 (or newer1) help you cross the language barrier with the tap of a button.

Google Lens can now detect if you’re reading something in another language, and automatically translate it for you6.

Simply take a screenshot of the page and tap the Lens chip to read the translated text.

Voila!

Walking smarter with Pixel

The new feature drop now features more accurate GPS for users of Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a with 5G1,2!

Your ridesharing service can find you more easily, and there’s no more guessing which side of the street you need to be on when you’re walking to your destination.

Make it yours

With new customisation features coming to your Pixel1, you can personalise it even further.

Personalise your home screen with new icons, grid views and app shapes, and create wallpapers out of famous artworks.

You can also make playlists from your Now Playing history. Just check your Now Playing history, then export your selected songs into a new YouTube Music playlist.

Pixel, but make it art

We all need a dose of culture in our lives, now more than ever.

Thankfully, Google Arts & Culture is introducing new wallpapers of famous artworks for your Pixel 3 or newer phone1. Find your favourite pieces from world-class museums, save them as your wallpaper and learn more about the art and artists.
