Motorola Moto G 5G Plus hands on: power and speed that won’t break the bank

By Luke Hopewell November 10, 2020

After an incredible return with the Razr revival, Motorola is back with the moto g 5G plus. It’s packed with features, boasts 5G on Australia’s best network, and comes in at just $499. All of that adds up to make it astonishingly good. Here’s what we love about it.

It punches above its price point…

The moto g 5G plus is a bit of a mouthful, but it has it where it counts. The Moto G range is a throwback to a few years ago, and is designed to offer phones with above average specs for below average prices. The new moto g 5G plus fits into this excellent mold. It is the first moto g family smartphone available on 5G in Australia.

The 6.7-inch, 21:9 CinemaVision Full HD+ display is designed for movie-watching without interruption, thanks to a notchless design and dual hole-punch selfie cameras. Motion is smooth thanks to a 90Hz refresh rate, and your content looks great with support for HDR10. You’ve even got a 3.5mm headphone jack if you want to bring your favourite ‘phones to the party.

The content you shoot on your moto g 5G Plus’ camera will also look great, thanks to the quad-camera design. This includes a 48-megapixel camera; a 5-megapixel Macro Vision camera for the ultra-close ups; a 2-megapixel depth camera for better Bokeh and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle camera with 118 degree angle. Phew!

The hardware is backed up by Motorola’s clever camera software, which features automatic smile detection; HDR; manual, and portrait mode to name a few.

…packs in the power…

The moto g 5G plus is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 5G processor, 6GB of RAM and backed up by Google Android 10. Not bad for $499, especially when you consider also that you get 128GB of storage – expandable up to 1TB via MicroSD – and a 5000mAh battery with 20W charging.

That means you get great hardware under the screen to power everything from mobile gaming to your productivity or work apps and everything in-between.

It’s similar hardware you might find in higher-end phones, but for a price that’s easier on the eyes.

…and Australia’s best 5G!

We’ve got Australia’s best 5G, and it’s constantly rolling out in more places.

We continue to roll out Australia’s best 5G to more and more cities and regional centres, and the moto g 5G plus is built to access the incredible speeds our network has to offer.

The possibilities 5G* offers are extensive. Its potential to deliver high speeds and low latency can enable not only fast download speeds for our customers, but also unlocks capacity for thousands of new devices working together on our network.

Check our coverage maps to find out more about 5G near you.

The Motorola moto g 5G plus packs a powerful punch at a price that won’t pinch. $499 for a device that more than pulls its weight is incredibly impressive, and we’re sold.

Motorola Razr: why we love this flipping legend

By Luke Hopewell April 3, 2020

In a world where smartphones often look similar, Motorola is back to change the game once again, and show us all how a phone can be more than just a featureless slate. Say “hello, Moto” to the new Motorola Razr.

‎‎‎‎‏‏‎ ‎

It’s a style-icon reinvented

The original Motorola Razr V3 from 2005 redefined what phones could look like. No longer were they grey, unmemorable bricks. Motorola showed us our phones could be just as stylish as our other accessories, with funky colours, brushed metal finishes and applications we’d never seen before.

Now in a sea of black rectangles, Motorola is back to blow our minds all over again with a vertical folding smartphone. It’s the perfect intersection between a flip phone of old and smartphone of tomorrow.

The brushed metal clamshell exterior confidently unfurls into a glorious 6.2-inch P-OLED display, bringing cinematic lustre to your content.

And just like the original, it’s back with more nifty features to change how you use your phone.

It has nifty features inside and out

When it’s open, the Razr is an awesome entertainment, productivity and connectivity tool. But when it’s closed, it’s still just as handy. While fully-closed, the Razr’s 2.7-inch external Quick View screen allows you to complete your tasks without even flipping it open.

The Quick View display allows you to read notifications, play music and even take selfies.

The camera works even more intelligently when you open the device, with smart composition, portrait mode and cinemagraph working hard to make your photo and video capture easy.

And it’s loaded with smart engineering throughout, even packing in an app that lets you simulate the old Razr V3 from 2005! Hello, Moto indeed.

It’s an ultra-convenient companion

Weighing in at 205g and folding up to an incredibly pocketable 94mm, the Razr is the perfect phone to carry when you don’t want to carry one at all.

It seamlessly slides into your pocket, with barely a bulge to speak of. And thanks to the Smart View screen, it doesn’t need to be unfurled every time you get a notification.

Availability

We’re proud to be the exclusive carrier for the new Motorola Razr in Australia.

The Motorola Razr is available from today with all of our new simplified mobile plans. You can add on the device for $112.45 per month on a 24-month contract. Min cost from $3,898 over 24 months on the $50 plan and may change if month to month plan price changes.

7 things we love about Motorola’s new Moto G7 Power

By Campbell Simpson April 30, 2019

We’ve just launched the new Moto G7 Power smartphone from Motorola, bringing some fantastic features and incredible battery life into a handset that won’t break the bank. If you’re thinking of upgrading to a new phone, take a look at this one – you might be surprised with what you get at such an affordable price. Here are our seven favourite features of the G7 Power.

  1. Phenomenal battery life. You don’t have to spend big to get the best features – the Moto G7 Power proves that. The G7 Power’s massive 5000mAh internal battery boasts enough charge to get you through up to three days of usage according to Motorola. If you’re the kind of person that forgets to plug your phone in overnight, the Moto G7 Power has you taken care of.
  2. Fast charging, too. That massive 5000mAh battery will come in handy when you’re away from a charger, but it only takes a short time to recharge back to full whenever you plug it in. Motorola’s TurboPower™ charging means you’ll get 9 hours of usage in just 15 minutes when you use the included 15W charger, which also uses the modern USB-C connector.
  3. A big, bright display. Motorola has given the Moto G7 Power a big 6.2-inch HD+ Max Vision display, which means plenty of viewing space to watch streaming movies and TV, browse the web or snap high-quality photos. Its 19:9 ultrawide design means the G7 Power can be slimmer and easier to hold in your hand without sacrificing that precious screen space.
  4. Clear scenes and selfies. It may be a budget smartphone, but the Moto G7 Power still has a 12-megapixel rear camera with smart phase detection autofocus, which helps you capture clearly focused photos even in low light. An 8-megapixel front camera also makes for detailed selfies, and there’s a group selfie mode to fit more of your friends into the frame.
  5. A fast, powerful processor. Even an affordable phone should still be a fast one. The Moto G7 Power fits that bill, with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 processor that supports all the latest Android software features and apps. The Moto G7 Power has 32GB of built-in storage that can be expanded up to 512GB with a microSD memory card, and 3GB of RAM to keep everything running smoothly.
  6. Reliable, simple software. Motorola has always made excellent smartphones, and part of that excellent experience comes down to the simple, light-weight Android software of the Moto series of handsets. The Moto G7 Power runs Android 9 Pie out of the box, which is Google’s latest and greatest version of Android, with a host of useful features built in.
  7. A built-in headphone jack! In the days where good ole’-fashioned 3.5mm headphone jacks are becoming harder and harder to find on smartphones, Motorola is bucking the trend and has included a headphone jack on the Moto G7 Power – so you can plug in your headphones and listen to music wherever you are.

The Motorola Moto G7 Power is available exclusively at Telstra stores and online now.
