Share the magic of music this Christmas

Christmas time is about connecting with family and friends, and we know that one way Australians love to connect is through music.

In 2017, Australians are streaming more music than ever before, with the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA) estimating that one in eight Australians now subscribe to streaming platforms like Apple Music –  and we don’t expect this streaming trend to slow down over the summer holidays.

While other countries may celebrate a white Christmas, with festive tunes required to brighten up a wintery northern hemisphere day, in Australia, Christmas has a different soundtrack.

Music is integral to the backyard barbeques and summer soirees – it’s how we connect people in the digital world.

That’s why this Christmas, we’re creating a Christmas playlist, dedicated to Australians, by Australians.

To help us create this playlist, we’re asking for Aussies across the country over to jump onto our Facebook page and comment with your favourite festive tune and tag who you want to share it with.

It’s all with thanks to our friends at Apple Music, and the final playlist will be available on Apple Music to stream all Christmas long.

So what are you waiting for?! Head to our Facebook page here and leave your Christmas song dedication in the comments.

A little insider tip, we will be announcing and streaming the Telstra Christmas Playlist on Apple Music from 19th December. Keep an eye out.

Oh and if you didn’t already know, music streaming on Apple Music is data-free on the Telstra mobile network, so you can stream all season long.

A self-confessed Apple loyalist, Garry Holmes from regional Victoria has bought a brand-new iPhone every two years since the iPhone 3GS landed.

In fact, Garry’s been so keen to get his hands on the latest devices, he’s even made a 16-hour round-trip (complete with a stint of overnight camping) to be first in line at Melbourne’s Bourke Street Telstra store on launch day.

But this year, to say thanks for his 20 years as a Telstra customer, we took the latest smartphone launch to Garry. This morning, Telstra’s first iPhone X was delivered directly to Garry’s home in Harcourt North using DJI’s state-of-the-art Matrice 600 drone. See how we made it happen and follow its epic journey in the video above, or get to know Garry in our Q&A below!

Tell us about yourself

I’m a bit of a tech geek who lives in Harcourt North, Victoria with my wife Michelle and three children.

How many iPhones have you owned?

I’ve had the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 5, iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 7 Plus.

Why do you love iPhones?

I love technology and most of my devices are Apple. I use my iPhone for just about everything! Keeping in touch with family, friends and colleagues, searching on the internet, as a camera, music player and to keep active using applications and games such as ingress and Pokemon Go.

Why have you stayed with Telstra for 20 years?

Telstra has great coverage in regional Victoria and getting my iPhones through Telstra has been effortless (sans the sleeping out). Getting them on a plan is a great way to pay off the phones, and then I renew and hand my older phones to the kids!

What features are you most excited about the iPhone X?

I’m probably most excited about the augmented reality and 3D gaming capabilities, and I’m pretty keen to try out the Face ID feature and Animojis!

It’s that time of the year again where Apple fans rejoice in the latest iPhone launch – and Telstra is in on the celebrations to welcome the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and Apple Watch® Series 3 to the Telstra family!

We’re celebrating the launch in stores across the country, and here at our George Street Sydney Discovery Store we stopped to chat to our first customer –Brahman Thiyaga who was first in to get the Apple Watch Series 3 and iPhone 8.

What motivated you to get here early today?

“I came for the new Apple watch, and to see what Telstra could do for me in terms of a plan. I actually haven’t ordered a new phone for a few years, so thought it made sense to get the new iPhone too while I’m here. And Telstra has served me quite well over the years so I haven’t really had a reason to change carriers.”

What new features are you most excited about?

“I’m actually holding out for the iPhone X, but given I’m already a Telstra customer and could get a plan with the watch, I thought I’d get the iPhone 8 for my wife so we get the best of both worlds! I’ll be coming back to get the X for myself in November.”

Are you looking forward to trying out the new eSIM technology with Telstra One Number?

“I’m definitely excited about the eSIM technology, it’s an interesting user case for me because I actually carry two phones so this is going to make things a lot easier. These days I’m carrying two phones day and night so this allows me to keep work at work, and play at play.”

Did you travel far to get here?

“Yes I’m actually from Epping – I normally work out in Homebush and I ended up here at 6am so it was a bit of a diversion!”

First thing you’ll do with your new devices?

“I’m keen to test out the new camera and look at the AR capability – they’re probably the new features I’m most excited to have a play with, and I think iOS 11 itself was a pretty big upgrade which I’m keen to try out.”
