Roam with peace of mind these holidays

I can’t believe 2014 is almost over and the Christmas holiday period is upon us. Where did the year go?

I love getting away over the Christmas break. Sometimes, as a treat, my family and I head overseas.

I know many of you will be heading off overseas this time of year – especially to destinations by the beach like Indonesia and Thailand where you can really switch off.

Even while I’m unwinding overseas I like to use my mobile – usually to a pull up live maps so I don’t get lost, get recommendations on where to eat and keep in touch with friends and family back at home (and maybe brag a little bit about the great time I am having).

However, we know the cost and complexity of roaming pricing can really hold people back from getting the most out of a smartphone when travelling.

So, just ahead of the Christmas holiday period we’re introducing International Roaming Travel Passes that take the guess work out of using a Telstra mobile overseas.

A Travel Pass allows you to make and receive unlimited voice calls to and from standard numbers, send unlimited text messages to standard numbers, and gives you an included data allowance, to use in eligible countries for the duration of your Travel Pass.

For example, if you grab a Zone 1 ($15) or a Zone 2 ($30) 3-day Travel Pass you will receive:

  • Unlimited voice calls to and from standard fixed and mobile numbers – both when calling home and calling overseas
  • Unlimited SMS to and from standard numbers
  • A 150 MB data allowance – to meet the typical daily data needs of using a mobile
  • Additional data available at 3 cents per megabyte during the 3 days – matching the data rate available on Telstra’s domestic plans

We offer two Travel Passes each with their own eligible countries. Combined, our Travel Passes cover more than 40 popular holiday destinations.(check out the table below). So you can be laughing in London, enjoy no worries roaming in New York, and have peace of mind in Paris!

We’re also making it easy for customers who have purchased a Travel Pass to track their data usage by sending SMS alerts when 50 per cent, 85 per cent or 100 per cent of their included data allowance is reached.

We hope the new Travel Passes mean you can call, text and share your adventures with friends and family without having to worry about coming home to an unexpected bill.

Telstra’s International Roaming Travel Passes are available to Post-Paid Consumer and Small Business handheld mobile customers from Tuesday 9 December.
