Possum skin draped on his shoulders and eucalypt–scented smoke billowing from his coolamon – Elder Colin Hunter welcomes 200 Telstra team members to the land of the Wurundjeri people. Part of this land we call Melbourne. These seven images capture this unique moment, which for most marked the first time they had been welcomed onto this land by its Traditional Owners.

Captivated, honoured, emotional and touched – these were just four of the many words expressed by Telstra team members who attended the Telstra Wurundjeri Immersion Day last week.

Hosted by the Wurundjeri people, the event involved hands-on workshops in Indigenous languages, land management and warrior games, as well as special panel discussion with six Wurundjeri Elders.

The day was part of Common Ground, a six-week Indigenous engagement program connecting Telstra staff with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Common Ground is book-ended by two significant historical weeks in the calendar year, starting with National Reconciliation Week and finishing at the end of NAIDOC Week on 10 July.
