ONE simple way to make a difference

Community groups, NGOs and companies around Australia (including Telstra) joined together to celebrate National Volunteer Week from 12-18 May.
National Volunteer Week recognises the 36 per cent of Australians who get involved in their communities by volunteering each year. It serves as a great reminder of the impact we can make by giving our time to a cause we care about.
To mark the occasion, we launched the ‘One Day. One Cause. One Dollar. For Everyone’ campaign within Telstra. ‘ONE’ encourages our people to take up their One Day of volunteering leave, get behind One Cause that matters to them, and have every One Dollar they donate through payroll giving matched by Telstra.
In the lead up to the launch, 16 lucky Telstra employees were rewarded for their commitment to customer service and advocacy with the opportunity to visit the Philippines and volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. The team spent their days shovelling, sand bagging, passing bricks and rendering, all in an effort to complete the foundational stages of new homes for underprivileged families.
Back home, we got behind One Cause that’s close to our hearts and supported RECOGNISE – the movement to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Australian constitution. With the help of over 50 volunteers, Telstra worked with the AFL to promote RECOGNISE during the league’s Indigenous Round last weekend.
While these initiatives have been a great success, for the most part, ONE is coming to life through the individual efforts of our employees – who are already proving that if each of us gives one day, or one dollar to one cause we believe in, together we’ll make a huge difference.
