Recently we started topping up the data allowances for our consumer fixed broadband customers and aim to reach more than 2.5 million customers in the coming months. The data will be applied to all consumer ADSL, Cable, FTTP and NBN plans taken up prior to the 30th of June 2015.
The extra gigabytes are a permanent addition to your plan. No conditions, easy.
This has surprised some of you, but we want to let you know it’s genuine!
The reason we’re doing this is simple: we want to say thank-you for being a Telstra customer by offering you more value on a service that you tell us is becoming more and more integral to your life every day.
Now, there are several million of you to top up so it’s going to take us several months to complete, but rest assured we want to say thank-you to all of you.
We know your home internet service has never been more useful – and you’re using more of the internet every year.
For instance, last year the volume of traffic carried over our fixed network increased by more than 30 per cent.
And you’re using the internet differently too. Five years ago hardly any video traffic was carried over Telstra’s fixed network. Now it accounts for 30 per cent of Telstra’s overall fixed network traffic.
Each month there is more than 27.5 petabytes of video traffic carried over our fixed network. That’s equivalent to watching more than 13 million hours of high definition videos each month. That’s a lot of streaming!
This extra data will also help set you up for our community Wi-Fi revolution – which, in the coming months, will allow you to take your new home broadband allowance with you to Wi-Fi hotspots around the nation.
What do you need to do to receive your data top up?
Absolutely nothing, just enjoy it.
In the coming months we will write to you and send you a text to let you know that we’ve updated your allowance.
Once the extra data has been added to your account it will be included every month for as long as you remain on that plan. You will also still be able to receive your three free data top ups each calendar year too.
Over the last few months we’ve also made some great improvements to our Telstra BizEssential bundles and have launched a new range of Business Broadband ADSL plans that will provide more data and greater peace of mind, with a broadband plan to help businesses be the best they can be.
We are also migrating our eligible business customers to our new business plans in the coming months so they can make the most of the additional data at no extra cost, with no impact to their service or contract.

UPDATE : Bonus data top ups for more of our fixed broadband customers
We want to provide you with an update on our Bonus Data Top Ups program for our fixed broadband customers.
I’m pleased to confirm that by the end of this month we will have completed the process of providing Bonus Data Top Ups to our remaining customers on Consumer Home Broadband ADSL, CABLE, Velocity and NBN Broadband plans (launched prior to 30th June 2015) that have not yet received this top up.
These Bonus Data Top Ups are at no additional cost to you and will appear on your account between the end of July and your next billing period.
It’s been a big task, adding more data and providing more value to more than 2.5million customer plans, and we thank you for your patience as we worked through this.
We’ve loved hearing how much you’re enjoying your bonus data and know that many of you were hoping that more broadband services would be added to this offer so you too could also enjoy all that bonus data brings.
And with the recent launch of our Australia’s largest Wi-Fi network, Telstra Air®, you can now take your home broadband data to thousands of hotspots across Australia and 15 million hotspots overseas through our partnership with Fon – allowing you to enjoy even more of your bonus data top-up.
