It’s no wonder really. Telstra research recently found on average young Australians get their first smartphone when they’re 12!
With mobile use among Australian families accelerating we’ve looked at how we can offer you a simple and affordable way to get the whole household connected on smartphones and tablets.
They’re called Go Mobile plans and they’ve launched today. They include the option to easily add additional voice services to your base plan and share data across all eligible plans so you can create a mobile package that suits your family needs. And importantly they allow you to manage all your services conveniently through a single account.
If you take up a new Go Mobile plan, you can:
• Connect additional mobiles to your Go Mobile plan (including casual plans) by purchasing a new $40/mth SIM that includes unlimited voice, SMS and MMS to standard Australian numbers and comes with data sharing enabled (min cost $75/mth with a $35 Go Mobile Casual plan).
• Get data devices like SIM-ready tablets online by purchasing a $5 per month Data Sharing SIM to their base Go Mobile plan (min cost $40/mth with a $35 Go Mobile Casual plan). Perfect for youngsters taking tablets to school.
• Share all your data automatically across all eligible plans on a single family or household account to gets the most out of included data allowances.
So how could this work in practice? Say you’re running a two-parent household like me, both parents could take up one of our new $70/mth Go Mobile Casual plans, and connect two additional mobiles for their kids by adding two companion SIMs for $40/mth with unlimited voice and SMS SIMs. This allows the family to share 12 GB of data and enjoy cost certainty with unlimited voice and SMS every month to standard Australian numbers within Australia (monthly min cost $220).
Plus, to complement your involvement in your kids’ screen-time we include a free cyber-safety tool that allows you to set time-of-day limits on calls and mobile web use, block unwanted calls and texts and choose the mobile web content that can be accessed on mobile devices. We’re also including entertainment options on our Go Mobile plans with your choice of a bonus 12-month NRL Digital Pass, or AFL Live Pass, or a bonus 6-month Presto subscription (data charges may apply).

More confidence to surf and stream
We also know how it important it is to have cost certainty when you’re connecting a family. That’s why we’re including Telstra’s Extra Data feature with each Go Mobile plan. It gives you automatic 1GB data top ups to use in Australia when you exceed your monthly data allowance. Extra Data is charged at a great-value rate of just $10 per GB to be used by the end of their billing month. It works with our real-time data alerts to ensure you’re in the know and in control of your data use.

Go Mobile Plans: Some usage is excluded, such as calls/SMS/MMS to premium numbers (e.g. 19xx numbers), 1234, 12455 and 12456 numbers, some satellite numbers, content charges and use overseas. Unused allowances expire monthly.
Extra Data: If you go over your Monthly Data Allowance, we automatically add data to your allowance for that month in 1GB blocks for $10 per GB. Extra Data is for use in Australia with eligible plans, is shared between eligible data sharing services on your account and expires at the end of that billing month.
If you’re a business customer and take up a new Go Business plan, or request Extra Data for your account, we’ll switch all eligible services on your account to Extra Data (which will replace the old per MB charging model for those services moving forward).
Data Sharing: Your monthly data allowance will be shared between all eligible services on the same account. Except for the $40/mth Data Share SIM for personal customers, Data Share SIMs can’t be used in mobile handsets.
