Helmed by innovative technology entrepreneur, Matthew Wilson, Penten is a Canberra-based cyber security firm that is leading the charge in helping defence and government agencies protect themselves against the most sophisticated digital threats.

The three-year-old business was just named 2018 Telstra Australian Capital Territory Business of the Year, and also picked up the Medium & Making Waves Award.

It’s an incredible achievement for this team of 45 who use highly innovative technology to trick and trap cyber-attackers, and ensures mobile security to give government employees safe access to classified documents.

In the context of ever-changing cyber security threats, the judges were impressed with Penten‘s ground-breaking solutions in this area of national importance.

The business is creating solutions to cybersecurity problems that are unique to Australia but also marketable to other allied nations.

“I’m excited that Telstra has given us a platform to tell everyone what an amazing set of engineers exist here in Canberra, and talk about the world-leading cyber security technologies we’re creating,” Matthew Wilson said.

Beyond its current clientele, Penten is now being pursued for early adoption in banking, finance and resources sectors by some of Australia’s largest companies.

Penten is one of the many stellar winners from the Australian Capital Territory Business Awards.

At the State Dinner held at the National Gallery of Australia last night, I was delighted to celebrate with many other trail-blazing businesses, including:

  • 2018 Telstra Australian Capital Territory Emerging & Energised Award winner – SponServe: A cloud-based rights-management platform for sponsorship professionals. It provides a way of tracking and measuring sponsorship relationships for brands and rights owners.

  • 2018 Telstra Australian Capital Territory Social Change Maker Award winner – Think Place: With design studios across Australia, Think Place applies design thinking and a process of co-design to solve complex problems within the public, private and humanitarian sectors.
