Over the next 10 weeks, students across the country will be competing to see who can create the most innovative idea as part of the Telstra M2M University Challenge.
Machine-to-machine (M2M) communications involves the exchange of information between machines, people, processes or the cloud. Today M2M solutions ranges from mobile Payment, to Vehicle Tracking, Vending solutions, Asset Tracking and Meter reading just to name a few. Tomorrow M2M technology is expected to be embedded into many more of the ‘things’ we interact with every day in innovative ways that will fundamentally change our world.
This challenge will see 21 teams from 17 Universities compete to see who can come up with the most innovative solution that can change and improve the way people live and work.
Over the course of the challenge, teams will attend workshops and meet with experts from Telstra – and our challenge sponsors Ericsson and Netgear – to help refine their idea before it reaches the judges. Each idea will be judged on its commercial viability, innovation, suitability for mass production, marketability and how well it is presented.
The winners will receive:
- A substantial monetary grant for their university
- Consultancy services
- The M2M University Challenge trophy
- The latest mobile device for each team member
Last year saw teams from La Trobe University and University of Sydney both awarded winners, so it will be interesting to see if we can find one idea to stand above the rest this year.
