As humans we love going faster. And that extends to how we use our mobiles, which we increasingly rely on to connect with people, apps and content in the moment.
That’s why we’re introducing 4GX.
4GX is our new mobile service that’s bringing extreme speeds and extra 4G coverage to a range of communities across the nation.
It’s a big step forward in mobile performance built on some of the world’s most advanced network technology.
So what will 4GX offer people?
First, 4GX sets a new benchmark in mobile internet speeds in Australia.
Customers using 4GX devices in 4GX areas can enjoy faster speeds than those available on our regular 4G. And that’s great for downloading, sharing, streaming and connecting faster and more reliably than ever.
Second, with a 4GX device you can enjoy extra in-building coverage over our 4GX footprint. That means you can look forward to speedy mobile web access in more offices, bedrooms and lifts.
In regional areas, 4GX can go further too creating better coverage than our existing 4G.
And third, 4GX doubles our 4G bandwidth meaning there’s more 4G to share.
So you can do more things on your device with fewer slowdowns – even in peak hour or in crowded places like shops or on the bus.
Best of all, some of this year’s most popular devices are 4GX ready, including the iPhone 6 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (which launches on Wednesday).
4GX is already available in a selected number of communities across Australia. And we’re extending the service to all Capital CBDs and 50 Regional centres by January 2015.
So, if you want to find out what faster feels like, head to our website.
How 4GX works
4GX is based on Telstra’s new 700MHz spectrum and delivers higher typical mobile speeds on compatible devices, allowing more Australians to experience more reliable connections and ultra-fast mobile internet. It also uses sophisticated LTE Advanced technology to bring together Telstra’s 1800MHz and 700MHz 4G spectrum bands to supercharge mobile web speeds even further on compatible devices.
In 4GX areas, people with compatible devices can look forward to the fastest 4G speeds in Australia as customers, with 4GX category 6 devices (like the Samsung Galaxy Note 4) can enjoy typical download speeds of between 2Mbps and 100Mbps. Customers with 4GX category 4 devices in 4GX areas can enjoy typical download speeds of between 2Mbps to 75Mbps.
