Hybrid cloud, simplified

The love affair between cloud and business is growing. We know this because a recent IDC Survey of Australian enterprises indicates plans to adopt a hybrid cloud are at around 80 per cent.

With this number so high, how do we best manage the move between traditional IT, public and private cloud environments?

We also know flexibility and choice is a priority for customers, which is why I’m pleased to confirm that Telstra is taking steps to enable this while making the process less complex. We plan to do this by expanding our cloud services portfolio and offering the best in market solutions with a single service management experience.

Our vision? To provide a range of next generation platforms that complements our strategic cloud partnerships. Today we’re announcing that we are partnering with VCE, a joint venture between EMC and Cisco with investment from VMware and Intel to offer private Cloud – Vblock™ Systems.

We hear lots of noise around ‘private cloud’ – but what does it actually mean? Private cloud is a scalable cloud environment, built on infrastructure that’s purely dedicated to your business.

This solution gives our customers the choice of either a fully managed infrastructure on-premise solution or best-in-class component integrated into a single product. Unifying these new cloud offerings into a single service management experience will see our customers benefit from the services that best suit their requirements, instead of taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

We know that our customers don’t have uniform IT environments, business needs are too varied. So successful organisations will move to a ‘hybrid’ cloud – this includes a combination of both private and public cloud environments.

For this reason, we have made it a priority to further extend our Cloud Services portfolio. We aim to provide an enterprise cloud solution where our customers can use their existing data centres, or house that same data in a Telstra co-location facility.

Vblock™ Systems, when sold with Telstra Cloud Infrastructure and network (VLAN Extension), offers a hybrid solution for customers to access additional capacity in a low risk and cost effective way. And as we continue to execute on our long term cloud strategy, we’ll continue to partner with the best providers of cloud infrastructures, enriching our portfolio.

We want to add capabilities and innovative products that are relevant to the market, offering customers unified management as a one stop shop.

What’s your next move?
