It’s hard to believe that it was only April last year that we introduced our first Android smartphone — the HTC Desire.

The original Desire just worked flawlessly — from its brilliant screen, fast web browser, zippy UI through to its almost endless customisation options.

It became one of our most popular smartphones — and helped usher in the mainstream popularity of Android in Australia.

Desire S

So it’s only fitting that we’ve teamed up with HTC to launch its successor – the HTC Desire S.

Desire S launches on 31 May. We think it will be another top-seller.

It’s thinner, lighter and its user interface and web browser are faster. It also our first smartphone to feature the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system.

We think our customers will love how it is crafted out of a single piece of aluminium. It’s really elegant — and feels well built.

It also has some great little features that our customers have come to love in HTC phones.

For instance Desire S rings more softly if you pick it up – which is great when you’re in a meeting. And, you can silence an incoming call by simply flipping the phone over. It also knows when it’s in a bag or in your pocket and rings louder.

The web browsing experience on the Desire S is another strong point. It’s underpinned by Next G® network connectivity plus really clever HTC Sense browser software that improves how text automatically reflows to fit the screen.

Wildfire S

HTC Widefire S handset

The original Wildfire was a hit with our younger customers and the Wildfire S, which will launch exclusively with Telstra on July 19, is also tailored especially for what younger people want in a phone.

It’s social: As well as HTC’s excellent Friend Stream app, Wildfire S includes access to Telstra’s own social networking service which is called Tribe. It brings together Facebook®, Twitter and MySpace in a single mobile portal and is free-to-browse in Australia.

It entertains:  Wildfire S provides access to thousands of games from Android Market and its YouTube app makes it easy to watch videos. Our customers can also choose from the 33 channels available on Mobile FOXTEL from Telstra.

It’s great value: Our customers will be able to pick up the Wildfire for $360 outright or team it with a range of Freedom Connect Plans.

It looks great: The original Wildfire won a lot of fans for its compact design. The Wildfire S is even more compact and retains its great looks.
