A self-confessed Apple loyalist, Garry Holmes from regional Victoria has bought a brand-new iPhone every two years since the iPhone 3GS landed.
In fact, Garry’s been so keen to get his hands on the latest devices, he’s even made a 16-hour round-trip (complete with a stint of overnight camping) to be first in line at Melbourne’s Bourke Street Telstra store on launch day.
But this year, to say thanks for his 20 years as a Telstra customer, we took the latest smartphone launch to Garry. This morning, Telstra’s first iPhone X was delivered directly to Garry’s home in Harcourt North using DJI’s state-of-the-art Matrice 600 drone. See how we made it happen and follow its epic journey in the video above, or get to know Garry in our Q&A below!
Tell us about yourself
I’m a bit of a tech geek who lives in Harcourt North, Victoria with my wife Michelle and three children.
How many iPhones have you owned?
I’ve had the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 5, iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 7 Plus.
Why do you love iPhones?
I love technology and most of my devices are Apple. I use my iPhone for just about everything! Keeping in touch with family, friends and colleagues, searching on the internet, as a camera, music player and to keep active using applications and games such as ingress and Pokemon Go.
Why have you stayed with Telstra for 20 years?
Telstra has great coverage in regional Victoria and getting my iPhones through Telstra has been effortless (sans the sleeping out). Getting them on a plan is a great way to pay off the phones, and then I renew and hand my older phones to the kids!
What features are you most excited about the iPhone X?
I’m probably most excited about the augmented reality and 3D gaming capabilities, and I’m pretty keen to try out the Face ID feature and Animojis!
