I’ve been lucky enough to get an early look at the HTC Titan 4G – Australia’s first 4G Windows Phone which launches next Tuesday 29 May on the Telstra Mobile Network.

blog-inpost-htc-titan-4gWith its built in Microsoft® Office Mobile software, the HTC Titan 4G is the first business-geared 4G smartphone to launch in Australia.

The jump to 4G technology in a business phone got me thinking about all the ways smartphones have made it easier to run a business.

They’ve certainly made small businesses more productive — letting them manage email, complete orders and get more things done while they’re out of the office. They’ve also helped fledgling operations respond to clients and new business opportunities when it suits them, rather than when they’re in front of an office PC. And, they’re making work more flexible – the workplace can now be wherever small businesses have mobile network coverage.

When you think of all the ways small and medium businesses already rely on mobile data to keep work flowing it’s clear that access to faster, more responsive mobile internet on these devices will be incredibly useful.

Enter HTC Titan 4G and Telstra’s 4G-enabled network. The HTC Titan 4G is Australia’s new flagship Windows Phone and the first to support ultra-fast 4G mobile data speeds. Customers using the HTC Titan in Telstra 4G coverage areas (at this stage capital city CBDs within 5kms of those capital city GPOs, associated airports and more than 80 additional regional and metropolitan locations within 3km of the regional town centre) can access typical download speeds ranging from 2Mbps to 40Mbps.

The extra speed in 4G coverage areas makes a huge difference. You can handle large emails on the go, capture and send high-resolution images and video from a job or on location and even use Titan’s Wi-Fi hotspot to set up a fast network on a customer visit.

The other great thing is that when outside 4G coverage areas the HTC Titan 4G uses a technology called HSPA+ Dual Channel (exclusive to Telstra) to serve up Australia’s fastest 3G download speeds available in other coverage areas which range from 1.1Mbps-20Mbps in all capital CBDs and much of the associated metropolitan areas and many regional locations. Outside of these areas speeds drop back to the next best 3G speeds available on our network in other coverage areas. What this means is that you get the benefit of Australia’s fastest and most reliable national mobile network – the Telstra Mobile Network, powered by 3G and 4G.

The HTC Titan 4G has an impressive 4.7 inch LCD screen which is the perfect canvas for reviewing documents and bashing out emails via the on-screen keyboard, and it also has a massive 16-megapixel camera that takes great high-resolution photos.

Speaking of email, Windows Phone provides the best email interface for people who already use Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Exchange. Customers can use mobile email with Exchange ActiveSync to view emails by conversation and to view all, unread, flagged, or urgent messages. In addition they can search for emails that aren’t stored on their phone but are available on the server. I also find the calendar the simplest and easiest to read at a glance, and the Exchange integration includes synchronisation of your to-do list. It’s all very familiar and intuitive.
