He was one of tennis’ most dominant players. Now he serves a different type of game. Andre Agassi shared insights and inspiration on his career highlights and challenges at Vantage. And what a way to end day two where the question of ‘how do we do things better?’ dominated and was demonstrated by 1000 experts, and 95 partners from the world’s biggest technology giants.

Breakfast for early risers was hosted by Telstra’s National General Manager Public Safety and Security, Alex Stefan, who announced Telstra LANES Emergency to the media. Telstra LANES Emergency will be available for Emergency Services Organisations this summer, allowing them to interoperate and communicate with each other in a way that is world leading. Read more on Telstra LANES Emergency here.

The better ways theme continued with Stephen Elop, Group Executive Technology, Innovation and Strategy, who kicked off things on the main stage with a focus on the need for companies to transform and Telstra’s vision to find better ways to help their customers do just this.

He talked about how transformative moments can be pursued during moments of great strength and that there can be remarkably difficult and total transformations.  Stephen then commented that his belief is that truly great companies in the world have the capacity to survive and thrive and lead through periods of disruption, often reinventing themselves entirely as they go and recognised that Telstra has this in its DNA.

International guest Sir Ken Robinson, who holds the record for the most viewed TEDx talk in history said that innovation is the life force of all great organisations and that companies that survive longest are those that can best adapt to their changing environments. He also said the role of a creative leader is not to have all the good ideas: it’s to facilitate a culture where everyone has good ideas and that means thinking very differently about talent, creativity and how to cultivate them. Check out his blog for Exchange here.

Soon it was game, set and match on the main stage, when Telstra Chief Operating Officer Brendon Riley managed to serve a couple of curve balls to Andre Agassi, which he returned in true world champ style, rounding out the hugely successful #Vantage16.

What do you get when you put together 17 Olympic size swimming pools worth of the latest technology and 4,000 global guests? Telstra Vantage 2016.

Now in its third year, Telstra Vantage has grown from strength to strength and quickly established itself as Australia’s leading ideas, technology and business industry event. This is a unique opportunity for Telstra to showcase how technology can help our customers do business in better ways.

Day one of Vantage commenced with award winning musician, artist and creative, Reeps One demonstrating how the human voice could control images by special technology developed by Telstra for Vantage.

CEO Andy Penn kicked things off with an address that focussed on the accelerating pace of technology innovation and the many opportunities and challenges that was creating for business. He said succeeding in a world of rapid change would require strong partnerships and a complete focus on the customer experience – two key themes at this year’s event.

Other highlights from the day included Don Meij, Group CEO & MD of Dominos sharing insights on the fast food giant’s success in the innovation space, and what technologies are most likely to be big influencers in retail in the future.

Telstra also announced an extended partnership with Microsoft in a combined effort to help customers on their digital transformation journey, by delivering managed enterprise voice services to Office 365 customers in Australia.

From ‘smart bins’ to drones for emergency services, to sports broadcasting and the latest in cyber security, we showed we can change the game by bringing together the world’s leading technology giants under the one roof as well, including Cisco, HP, Amazon, Microsoft and Accenture.

Once again Telstra is getting ready to host our business customer event, Vantage™ 2015. Taking place over two days on Tuesday 22 and 23 September at the Melbourne Convention Centre, Vantage™ has grown into one of Australasia’s largest and most dynamic technology and business events.

Last year I was delighted to lead this event which attracted over 2500 unique attendees and had showcases from more than 70 technology companies, including demonstrations of our own latest innovations.  The energy was contagious – big ideas were debated; mind bending technology was shown; practical experiences were shared and there was a lot of great networking. Take a look at our video below to get a sense of how stimulating it was.

2015 is going to be even bigger and better. Our mission is to help our customers to innovate, and innovate faster in order to reach their business goals.   We are focused on the three “C’s” – Connect, Collaborate and Create.  A big theme of this year is how organisations can embrace disruptive new ways of doing business to unlock solutions, create value and transform their workforce.

We have speakers ranging from business guru Malcolm Gladwell of “The Tipping Point” fame, to Sir Angus Houston who led Australia’s contribution to the MH370 and MH17 investigations.  We will have presentations on the latest technology – everything from how the Internet of Things can deliver business transformation to collaboration and cyber security.   Invaluable insights will be delivered from our customers in sectors ranging from sport, to transport and the resources industry.  Of course we also want to update you on the Telstra story and how we are constantly evolving in response to our customers’ needs.

So please join me for what promises to be another great event.  I will feel like the veritable “kid in the candy shop” with so many interesting things to see and people to learn from.  None more than our customers themselves who continually inspire us here at Telstra, with the way they embrace the change and opportunities presented by the fast changing business and technology landscape we all operate within.

To keep up with all the Vantage™ news and insights from our key speakers, stay tuned to this page as we count down the days until 22 September!
