With the highly anticipated JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM dropping in cinemas this month, we’re reminded of the adaptability of Chris Pratt – an actor who seemingly masters everything from goofy and witty to serious Hollywood action.
Here’s a handful of some of his best roles, all available to enjoy this weekend on Telstra TV.
Passengers (Foxtel Now)
PASSENGERS on Foxtel Now follows the journey of The Avalon, a spaceship fitted with time-sealed hibernation pods transporting thousands of colonists to a new planet, a journey that would take 120 years – had the ship not malfunctioned and awoken Jim (Pratt) ninety years early. Growing dangerously lonely, Jim awakens Aurora (Jennifer Lawrence), who is furious after discovering what he’s done. With ongoing issues prematurely awakening other pods, the pair is forced to work together to fix the ship, and decide whether to go back to sleep or embrace their growing feelings for one another.
Jurassic World (BigPond Movies)
Fourteen years after the third instalment of the JURASSIC PARK series, Chris Pratt completely modernised the science fiction franchise with his role as Owen Grady in JURASSIC WORLD on BigPond Movies, starring as a US Navy veteran tasked with researching a pack of Velociraptors held in a theme park. As the park’s operations manager (Bryce Dallas Howard) comes to inspect a new genetically-engineered dinosaur, things go quickly awry as the violent animal escapes, gathering once-docile dinosaur troops and wreaking absolute havoc.
Parks and Recreation (Stan)
Led by funny lady Amy Poehler, this hilarious mockumentary series follows the internal politics in a PARKS AND RECREATION (on Stan) Department in Pawnee, a fictional Indiana town. After Andy (Chris Pratt) injures himself in an abandoned household lot, the local department is enlisted and drama ensues. Beginning the show as a lovably foolish and dim-witted slacker, Pratt’s character develops into a love interest, council assistant and entrepreneur over the seven side-splitting seasons.
The Magnificent Seven (BigPond Movies)
Joining Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke to make up a star-studded cast of outlaws, gamblers and fugitives, this 1800s Western is proof of how well Pratt does action. THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN on BigPond Movies set out to take down a greedy industrialist set on forcing workers to mine gold for his profit, but quickly get caught up in several high-action shootouts with savage thieves, finding themselves fighting for more than just money.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (Netflix)
One of the cheekiest superheroes, Pratt stars as the half-human, half-godlike leader of the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (on Netflix), an unlikely group of extra-terrestrial misfits including crowd favourites Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Baby Groot. After forming a close, family-like bond in the first film, the sequel sees the gang battling a new villain, discovering the real origin of Quill’s mysterious upbringing. Prepare yourself for a whole heap of out-of-space action sure to keep you entertained until the very end.
