What the NRL captains are streaming on Telstra TV

With the 2018 Telstra NRL Premiership Season kicking off this week, we caught up with some of the game’s top players to find out what they’ve been streaming over the summer months and what they’re watching currently. You can stream all of this content tonight on your Telstra TV.

Alex Johnston (South Sydney Rabbitohs) is watching:

Vikings, SBS On Demand

Five seasons in, Alex says his favourite Nordic Warrior is Ragnar because he sees a bit of himself in the character. This historical drama series broadly follows the exploits of the legendary Vikings chieftain Ragnar Lothbrok and his crew, and later those of his sons.

Cam Smith (Melbourne Storm captain) is watching:

The Crown, Netflix

He admits it’s something the boys in the sheds probably wouldn’t expect him to watch but Cam describes his viewing of this biographical story about the reign of Queen Elizabeth II as “just doing a bit of royal family research”.  He’s not alone as The Crown has been named as Netflix’s most savoured show for 2017.

And what are they watching that they weren’t so willing to admit?

Jarrod Croker, Mitchell Pearce, Josh Jackson, Chris Lawrence and Kevin Proctor are all watching:

Married at First Sight, Nine, and 9Now

‘Supposedly’ they were roped into it by their wives and girlfriends, and “hated it at the start”, but they’re all now complete converts for the Married at First Sight social experiment that has got Australians glued to their screens. As the fifth season continues to teeter from one drama to the next, it seems the NRL captains are “committed” to seeing this one out until the season finale.

Jake Friend (Sydney Roosters captain) admitted to watching:

Keeping up with the Kardashians, hayu

It’s not by choice but he does tend to watch a lot of the Kardashians because of his girlfriend and he’s definitely not the only one.  The world has now been following the lives of the five most famous sisters on the planet for over a decade. Catch it on hayu, which is carving out its own niche by offering nothing but the latest reality TV shows straight from the US, and it’s all available on Telstra TV.

Alex Johnston (South Sydney Rabbitohs) recently watched:

Riverdale, Netflix

He might have been roped into it by his girlfriend… but the American teen drama Riverdale, based on the characters of Archie Comics, has a new fan in Alex Johnston.

And what are they watching with the kids?

Jonathon Thurston (North Queensland Cowboys captain) is into:

Paw Patrol, Stan

A group of six rescue dogs, led by a tech-savvy boy named Ryder, has caught the attention of JT’s kids who have been loving Stan’s huge line-up of kids TV shows like Paw Patrol this summer.

Daly Cherry-Evans (Manly Sea Eagles captain) has watched this one a few too many times:

Moana, BigPond Movies

As the father of three young girls, animated films get a decent run at the Cherry-Evans household and the Disney classic, Moana – which tells the tale of a spirited teen who sets sail on a daring mission to fulfill her ancestors’ unfinished quest – seems to be getting a fairly solid run at the moment.
