To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You (Netflix)
New to Netflix this week is the swoon-worthy sequel to the 2018 cult hit, ‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before’. Based on the popular teen romance novel series by Jenny Han, TO ALL THE BOYS: P.S. I STILL LOVE YOU sees the return of our prolific love letter-writing Lara Jean (played by Lana Condor) – this time dating heartthrob Peter (Noah Centineo) for real. But when another recipient of her misplaced letters, John Ambrose (Jordan Fisher) comes knocking, Lara is suddenly faced with the puzzling predicament of whether her heart can belong to two boys at once. Also joining the cast is Holland Taylor as the delightfully sassy Stormy, a senior citizen with a knack for relationship advice.
The Notebook (Telstra TV Box Office, 9Now)
If you haven’t seen THE NOTEBOOK, do you even know what love is? Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams turn up the chemistry in this epic time-sprawling romance, available on Telstra TV Box Office and streaming on Channel 9 (via 9Now) from 7:30pm this Friday 14 February. When an elderly man visits a nursing home resident to read to her from his tattered old notebook, he conjures up the vivid story of a young couple who fall madly in love, only to be tragically torn apart in the years leading up to World War II. And although their lives take very different turns, they find themselves helpless to refuse their heart’s true desires.
Titanic (Telstra TV Box Office)
Get ready to steam up those windows and plunge into the heart of the ocean with what is not just one of the most romantic movies ever, but arguably one of the greatest films of all time: TITANIC, available to stream on Telstra TV Box Office. This monumental love story follows wealthy socialite Rose (Kate Winslet) and penniless artist Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) as their unlikely romance blooms, against all odds, mere moments before disaster strikes. It might be the most famous ship sinking in history, but for many of us, the memory of that heartbreaking scene in the icy Atlantic waters will be one that we can “never let go”.
Romeo + Juliet (Telstra TV Box Office)
If you’re longing for more Leo, then Baz Luhrmann’s modern take on the Shakespearean classic, ROMEO + JULIET, is one you can’t miss – available now on Telstra TV Box Office. Drawn together by chance during a dazzling costume party, Romeo Montague (DiCaprio) discovers that his love-at-first-sight Juliet (played by a young Claire Danes) belongs to a rival household, the Capulets. When bitter family tensions threaten to keep the pair apart, Juliet devises a solution – but one that backfires in tragedy for all involved.
Moulin Rouge! (Telstra TV Box Office)
And if you’re still in the mood for a bit more Baz, why not check out Luhrmann’s third hit film – the toe-tapping musical extravaganza, MOULIN ROUGE!, available on Telstra TV Box Office. Set in the famous bohemian cabaret in Montmartre, Paris during the 1890s, this imaginatively fantastical romance tells the story of writer Christian (played by Ewan McGregor), who falls in love with the beautiful but unavailable courtesan Satine (Nicole Kidman). To get close to her, he casts her in a play that he claims to be writing, with scenes set to popular songs by David Bowie, Elton John, Madonna, the Beatles and Queen.
10 Things I Hate About You (Telstra TV Box Office)
Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles star in the teen romantic comedy that defined the late nineties: 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU – available on Telstra TV Box Office. Loosely based on Shakespeare’s ‘The Taming of the Shrew’, the story begins with popular girl Bianca (played by Larisa Oleynik), whose father forbids her from having a boyfriend until her older sister (Stiles) starts dating. The challenge is, her snarky sister isn’t exactly welcoming when it comes to the advances of boys at school. That is, until she meets her match – bad boy Patrick (Ledger) – who might just have what it takes to thaw her frosty heart.
Brokeback Mountain (Stan, Telstra TV Box Office)
If you’re in the mood for a good cry, then Ang Lee’s heartachingly touching romance, BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, is sure to deliver – available to stream on Stan and Telstra TV Box Office. Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal play Ennis and Jack, two cowboys hired to herd cattle up in the Wyoming mountains throughout the summer of 1963. As the pair spend the long days and nights alone together, they grow close – forming an unexpected and, for the time, forbidden romance that will shape their lives for decades to come.
Notting Hill (Foxtel Now)
Worlds collide in the adorably heartwarming romcom classic, NOTTING HILL – available to stream on Foxtel Now. When international movie star Anna Scott (played by Julia Roberts) covertly walks into a tiny bookshop in London’s West End, she makes quite an impression on the store’s charmingly star-struck owner William Thacker (Hugh Grant). And when the two of them literally bump into each other again, a romance begins to blossom – as their friends, families and the public take a keen interest in this unusual pairing.
Jerry Maguire (Telstra TV Box Office)
It’s the role that catapulted this year’s Best Actress Oscar winner, Renée Zellweger, into the limelight – the incredibly enjoyable romcom JERRY MAGUIRE, available on Telstra TV Box Office. Tom Cruise stars as Jerry Maguire, a fast-talking sports agent who loses his job for speaking too much of his mind – and is forced to start over, building up an agency of his own. Joining him is his old firm’s accountant, Dorothy (Zellweger) – a shy young single mother who gives up her job security to go out on a limb for Jerry, and eventually falls for him despite his questionable track record with women.
