  • Mark was named the AFR Marketer of the Year for 2009 and 2011 and recently identified as one of Mumbrella's significant seven respected marketers.
     
    When Telstra restructured its Marketing operations late last year, it gave new CMO Mark Buckman, who joined in December 2010 from CommBank, complete control of the country's largest marketing organisation and country's most valuable brand. His stated ambition is to transform Telstra from being Australia's biggest Marketer in Australia's BEST marketer.
     
    His most visible change so far has been turning a dusty old brand into a kaleidoscopic trip with the Welcome to life in full colour campaign, taking the brand further away from its government roots.

Celebrating the first anniversary of the new Telstra Brand

12 months ago, Telstra launched its new brand; we went out to market with a new look and feel that reflected the changes which were taking place within the organisation. The new colourful identity captured the diversity of our products, services and customers and was designed to create a stronger and more emotional connection between Telstra and our customers.

Fast forward to 2017

Last week I was invited by an old colleague and friend, Linda Wong, to join the Media Federation of Australia (MFA) ngen panel to discuss the media and marketing industry in 2017. ngen provides a community for young practitioners – the media leaders of the future – with a range of opportunities to broaden their skills. It was a great session and I thought I’d take this opportunity to share some thoughts from the event.
