John Parkin

  • Director, Service Delivery (Northern Region)
  • Telstra Operations
  • For the last seven years John Parkin has been responsible for the delivery of customer service by Telstra’s field workforce in Queensland and Northern NSW. As Director of Service Delivery for the Northern Region John's workload (and in some cases the workforce) doubles each year when the wet season hits and Telstra's field technicians mobilise to restore communications where nature has wiped them out.

In the first half of 2009 John's team came up against Cyclones Charlotte and Ellie which were followed by almost continual flooding in northern NSW and South-East Queensland. While John has enjoyed the winter months in Queensland his team are fully prepared for the 2010 peak season which has already begun with a series of floods throughout his patch.

John moved from Telecom NZ in Wellington to join Telstra in 1998. During his career in telecommunications John has also held a number of senior operational or contractual leadership roles at British Telecom.

Married to Kim, John has two fantastic children Aimee and Thomas and one chocolate Labrador Maggie. He has a real passion for rugby, the BBC. And like all Dad’s his favourite time is time spent with his children proudly watching them grow in to teenagers and supporting them through the challenges that inevitably brings.
