Since a young age Joel has been drawn to the notion that one was able to record their imagination via various mediums for the world to see.
Joel's first film was a stop-motion animation called "Happy Times With Socks and Shoes", which he made for Media class in High School. Starved of resources, Joel built a mini-editing suite using multiple VHS recorders and stereos wired together. Two sequels followed and Joel was hooked on filmmaking. Being an all round artist, Joel switched to painting, sculpting, animating and 3D modeling before coming back to filmmaking as a goal.
Inspired by the Michel Gondry film "Be Kind Rewind" Joel made 'sweeded' versions of some of his favourite films, including Back To The Future and Aliens. Joel has recently joined a film group of fellow hobbyists with the intentions of making great little films.
"Painting dreams and ideas of things never been. Filming the glance, the stare and the focus of any day. Illustrating thoughts and animating realities yet to come. The grass that grows through the crack in the footpath is my hero." - Joel
Recognising the change in technologies and the opportunities this presents to filmmakers, Telstra has partnered with Tropfest to launch an exciting new mobile-film category – Telstra Mobile Masterpieces.
