  • Christena Singh joined Sensis in 2003 as the author of the Sensis® Business Index and the Sensis® e-Business Report.

    The Sensis® Business Index is the flagship of Sensis’ SME research program. Since its inception in 1993, the Sensis® Business Index has been one of the most extensive and regular surveys of small businesses in Australia. The Sensis® Business Index has become one of the most widely referenced small business surveys in Australia, with its findings are regularly reported in the media and quoted in parliaments across the nation.

    As well as authoring and providing media commentary on Sensis’ major public economic and technology reports, Christena is also passionate about communicating the success of Australian small and medium businesses, both within Australia and overseas, and how the fast adoption of technology and e-commerce have helped Australia’s small businesses grow.

    Prior to joining Sensis, Christena spent over a decade working for the Federal Government on a range of policy areas, most notably small business and its role in the Australian economy.

    Christena is passionate about the importance of small business, being integral to Australia’s social and economic environment. In addition, Christena enjoys reading, running, travel, Chinese painting and studying Mandarin.

Sensis Business Index five years on

I’ll never forget November 2007. Australia had enjoyed a decade of economic growth, and the nation was in the midst of an election campaign where everyone was suddenly an economic conservative and running the economy was easy. Growth was so strong the Reserve Bank decided to increase interest rates, to stop the economy overheating.

With the London Olympics now in full swing, I was reflecting back on how things had changed so quickly. Back at the Beijing Olympics we all thought we were pretty digitally switched on, but we didn’t even have iPads, let alone apps to make sure we were awake when our favourite Olympians were competing.
