As Telstra's Social Media Senior Advisor Mike's priorities are to help build the appropriate foundations to enable Telstra to successfully participate in social media.

Originally from Ontario, Canada Mike rates one of his greatest early achievements as becoming the Mount Alverno Year 8 Chess Champion, a skill which obviously prepared him well for a career as a Ministerial Staffer in the Ontario Government and now with Telstra.

His other qualifications include an MBA from the Macquarie Graduate School of Management.

As well as helping Telstra establish its social media corporate governance structure Mike loves music and playing his acoustic guitar. Although he will always harbour dreams of becoming a rock star, he has come to terms with the realisation he should never give up his day job.

Social eye for the corporate guy

While we should get excited at the possibilities provided by social media, we need to find ways of cutting through the hype. The reality is that social media is just another channel and, like any other communication channel, corporations have to embrace the opportunity in a strategic manner.
