Citysearch’s highly anticipated iPhone application has launched! A unique addition to the Aussie app market, the app combines augmented reality with localised content, check-in functionality, social networking and GPS locality to give you information on the best places to eat, drink and get a culture fix in the city. And it’s free – download it now!

Taking the guess-work out of what to do in the city, Citysearch’s iPhone app combines its knowledge of the best restaurants, bars, nightlife and places of cultural interest with augmented reality – so you can literally see where the best places are in proximity to where you’re standing. Check out the demo video below …

The Citysearch app is Facebook-integrated so by logging in via Facebook Connect, you can locate your out-and-about friends who have checked into venues. Simply arrive at a venue, check in, share your location and post comments directly on your Facebook wall all without leaving the app.

The augmented reality function gives a virtual-world view of your surroundings highlighting bars, restaurants and arts venues close by, giving results most relevant to your location.

Working in tandem with the iPhone’s in-built GPS system, the app recognises locations to give pop-up suggestions of nearby places to eat, enjoy a drink or see an exhibition or place of cultural significance.

The app also encourages you to generate your own content, allowing you to share your best local knowledge with your networks by reviewing the venue you’ve checked in to and leaving your own comments and votes.

The free app is available today to download through the iTunes store - download it now!

  1. Almost 2 months without a single comment on this blog.

Clearly people now use Google / GMaps to find phone numbers or info while mobile.

I wonder how much longer Sensis, Yellow Pages, City Search and Whereis will last without a major overhaul of pricing and ease of use.

This is the best site for providing all kinds of service at iPod, iphone and Apple mobile.
