Waiting under the Apple tree

Meet Rahul Koduri. Not only is he a Telstra employee, he is passionate about Apple products. Right at the moment he is first in line at the Apple store in George St, Sydney. We’ve given Rahul a FlipCam to record his experience waiting for an iPad®.

God speed son, god speed.
Break a finger on that baby.
The second guy in the queue has a bodyguard even (radio show publicity stunt from memory). Maybe there’s a career to be had in protecting queue participants?
Apple = Over hyped, over priced and under-powered.
Telstra viral marketing reaches new low?
Hi Zac
We didn’t back Rahul, provide him with a body guard or make him wear a branded t-shirt! He is there on his own steam because he’s an Apple products fan. We’re excited for him though and he’s willing to help us out by sharing his experience.
Thanks
Kristen
How much did Telstra pay you to line up?
But the question remains, does he already have his Telstra iPad prepaid micro sim in his wallet ready to go?
Why doesn’t he just get it from JB Hi Fi tomorrow?
Hi Frank
All we gave Rahul was time off to line up (which he requested). He instigated this because he’s a passionate Apple supporter. We are excited for him but didn’t pay him to line up.
Cheers
Kristen
If you want to ride the future wave of “brain extensions” then is the only place to be. With a Next G(tm) connection I reckon will be a great option for overcoming some of the “digital divide” that besets many older people, including my mum and dad, from keeping up with the family memories and messages.
Oh come on, Apple ptoducts are the best, innovative, reliable & look fantastic, maybe a but more expensive, but you pay for quality reliability & product longevity
Apple = Over hyped, over priced but definitely not under powered!
If anyone does need a microsim please come see us at the Telstra Shop in Parramatta, we have plenty to go around for everyone.
that’s interesting. so he’s just a telstra shop salesperson?
While I don’t agree with Rahoul, ie I would never line up in the cold of Melbourne, I don’t think we can bag him too much.
Appreciate his enthusiasm for Mac n technology but am pretty sure there were better ways of getting your hands on an Ipad and definitely a lot before May 28th. For instance, get someone in the US to ship it for you or even better take a trip to the US yourself
or give it till next week n walk in to have your Ipad in 20 mins.
Rahul,
Good luck with you new iPad – I am sure you’ll love it!
Ramah – I guess its like the old saying…no one remembers the second man in space. Being the first to buy an iPad in Australia (as opposed to importing it) is something no one can ever take away from you. Good on Rahul for having the passion to do it. Even with my love of new toys and technology, I am not sure I would have subjected myself to the long cold, wet wait in the open to secure my iPad.
Hi Cheng
Well, we never like to describe anyone as “just” a salesperson because they rock! To your point though, yes, in this instance he is an Apple fan first and a Telstra shop salesperson second.
Cheers
Kristen
Does Rahul support Flash?
APPLE has surpassed Microsoft as the largest technology company in the world by market capitalisation. Yesterday, Apple Inc.’s shares rose to $US248.47, pushing its market cap up to about $US226 billion ($273.81 billion)
Embrace Apple products, they are doing something right!!!!
Hi GrannySmith
Great name! Personally I would rather spend my nights esconced in my snug house but in all the interviews Rahul has said he likes lining up for the experience of it. Whatever floats your boat I suppose!
Cheers
Kristen
I ordered mine online and received it just now, I didnt wait in a line in the freezing cold weather.
Unlucky for Rahul, how’s he going to unbrick it now? Maybe accross the road at T-Life.
Hi guys, I like this thread on iPAD. I think Telstra should do what ever it could, to remain in the good book of Gen XYZ of our society.
After all, its “Apple”, Adam fell for it and its for the “apple” again in his grand ma’s house, Newton discovered gravity, the universal force that binds us into one humanity. So if someone is passionate about Apple products – organic electronic gadget, I don’t see anything wrong with that.
Wake up guys! come to your senses with the reality of life.
Good on you Telstra, keep us on the front row and let us remain in the forefront of the market. I love it to be that way.
After all the reviews about the first ipad, I’ll be waiting for the 2nd version at the end of this year as it will be compatible with USB stick technology.
Mike, not sure why you go to the trouble of “unbricking” a device you only just received and yet to explore what it is capable of doing. From what I have seen so far, the pre paid data rates between the carriers are competitive.
If the fear of overspending is the issue, then practical use of WiFi will help. By this I mean when you are at home or in another place with Wifi, use that method for downloads etc. When you are out and about and really need to use the cellular network, do so. At the end of the day you control your usage patterns and can avoid the nasties associated with “unbricking” (including having to do it all over again when a software upgrade comes around)
@ michael lewis – What are you talking about mate? Un-bricking means to plug into iTunes and activate the device.
Mike, the term unbricking commonly refers to “breaking” the security on the device – and is regularly used amongst those customers who unlock their iPhones (for example) to make them cedllular network agnostic.
Well, did he get it ? And what is his feedback
Mhhh , let me see..
Which Data Plan?
Vodafone, Unlimited Data, $50
Optus, Unlimited Data, $50
Telstra Data, 6gig, $60
Telstra Data 12gig , $100
Decisions decisions..
He who buys first pays the most. The reality is nobody will remember who was first in Oz to buy an iPad.
An overhyped netbook that locks you into spending more money on apple apps & itunes.
Horse for courses I guess, but give me open source software & freedom to listen to non-iTunes sourced Ukranian Folk Metal on my generic mp3 player any day
Good on you Rahul. I preordered and had it by 11AM, though if I’d known I would have just got it at Dick Smith or JB! Hope you’re enjoying your ipad as much as me
@ Michael Lewis,
As Mike Jones stated, the term unbricking means to activate a device in iTunes. The term used for network unlocking, is simply network unlocking…. unless you are referring to the term jail breaking which means to unlock the phone from all networks and also to crack the Apple software on the product. In the retail environment, we must unbrick an Apple product before it leaves the store with a you.
Hi Doug
Ukranian Folk Metal? C’mon German Folk Metal rocks all over the Ukranian stuff.
Cheers
Kristen
I’m getting old! When I was young, it was come back to ‘myPad’ to look at my etchings. Now days it’s wifi to iPad to bluetooth some etchings!
@Michael Lewis
Unbricking is the internal Apple term for initial activation of the iOS device. Also known as “Activating the iPad/iPhone”. It takes a couple of seconds and happens automatically the first time an iOS device is plugged in to a computer running iTunes. It’s often done in-store.
Before the device is unbricked, it displays a connect to iTunes logo.
I’m sorry this thread has turned into a \Please fix my phone\ thread.
If the chat about phone syncing could go across to Whirlpool or some better forum, this thread could be used to get messages through to help Telstra improve their Customer Service. Thanks.
