Blitz your interior design dilemmas with the “Furnish My Room” interior design application
Filed under: augmented reality, innovation
Whether we’re comparing interior design expertise with our favourite renovators on The Block or considering our living room’s feng shui, we are a nation obsessed by home improvement.
To help our nation of design devotees, Telstra, in conjunction with Bay Leather Republic, is trialling “Furnish My Room” – an innovative web-based application to help you to understand if the furniture you fell in love with on Bay Leather Republic’s show-room floor will actually fit in your lounge room, hallway or dining room!
So how does Furnish My Room work? Upload a photo of your room and select the Bay Leather Republic furniture item you are thinking about buying to create a realistic visual of how the item will look in your room.

Furnish My Room also helps eliminate design woes about the size or shape of an item, as it automatically determines the size of an item of furniture in relation to the scale of your room, helping you decide if the furniture will fit.

Not only can you view lifelike, scaled images of Bay Leather Republic’s dream furnishings in your home, the Furnish My Home application also allows you to view your room, and your new furniture, from various angles – just to make sure you really like what you see!
Telstra’s Chief Technology Office is trialling the service with a furniture retailer, Bay Leather Republic, for three months. If you’re interested, you can try the free service by going to Bay Leather’s website and clicking on the “Furnish My Room” tab – it’s available on iPads, Windows XP/7 and Mac OS 10.8. Be sure to get in quick as the trial concludes on March 19.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on Furnish My Room, so let us know what you loved and hated and any success stories from your own room renovations.
