Introducing the Windows Phone 8X by HTC powered by Telstra 4G
Filed under: 4G, HTC, mobile handsets
Turns out the Nokia Lumia 920 isn’t the only Windows 8 Phone coming to Telstra 4G this Christmas! To spice things up for Santa, we’re also bringing you HTCs first Windows Phone 8 smartphone – the Windows Phone 8X by HTC, it’s slim, colourful and built around an immersive 4.3 inch 720p HD screen that’s packed with colour and detail.
It’s compatible with our national 4G service and features built-in ‘Beats Audio’ technology that gives great sound quality listening to music, playing games or watching video.
The front camera features a wide lens that gives a broad picture area and the rear camera sports an 8 mega-pixel sensor with backside-illumination for improved low-light performance.
Its physical shutter button makes it quick and easy to capture spontaneous action, even if the phone is locked.
It runs Windows Phone 8 with rich features like Live Tiles that let you see at a glance everything that’s going on without even opening an app.
It will be available in Californian Blue and Graphite Black and Telstra customers can purchase the 4G-powered Windows Phone 8X by HTC online from 4 December (on a relevant Plan as described below) and in-store from 11 December (outright for $696, or on a Plan as described below).

Sorry but would rather see the Galaxy Note 2.
Hi, great to see all these new releases.
Is there any chance to purchase one of these outright before Christmas?
The Nokia Lumia 920 release has unfortunately been poorly executed and I (along with many others) got very little information from Telstra prior to the purchase dates stated and still can’t find any in stock.
Hope you can do better here.
Will this have the same supply issues as 920?
If so the average customer will struggle to get a windows 8 phone before xmas!
And only two colours? Disappointing…
Oh, that’s great… but perhaps try not to screw this up like the Nokia Lumia 920 release. I hope those wanting the 8X manage to get a hold of them without delay!
How many will stores have of this one in stock at launch? Please publish this info and stop people wasting their time. My local store only had 2 Lumia 920 phones at launch and still haven’t heard when more will be available…
Why limit colour choices when competing directly with the 920 (price wise)?
Hey Mike,
Seems the colors are a little limited, but specs wise the competition between this and the 920 is rather close too,
i mean personally the “Beats By DRE” sound setups interegrated, with this specific, and a few other HTC’s are awesome for anyone who always uses their phone for music on the go, but still loves sound quality.
Also, the HTC having a built in 16gb memory, vs the 1gb of the Lumia,
Dont get me wrong, both phones have their plus sides over the other, really depends on what you’d prefer in the phone!! So they’re still quite competitive!
Regards,
Josh, Telstra DB.
@Josua Myles That statement regarding the storage of the 8X vs the 920 is highly inaccurate.
The Lumia has 1GB of RAM not Storage. The 920 has 32GB of storage, which is 16GB more than the 8X.
Not only is this available from the official specs but I can confirm personally that my 920 has 32GB of storage.
Also if you want to compare, Dolby sound on the 920 is pretty good as opposed to beats which are also pretty good.
Dear Matt,
Sorry about that, read the spec list i was looking at for the 920 incorrectly, thanks for picking up on that!
At the end of the day, as you’ve also said, spec wise, they’re quite competitive, which i guess would help make the final decision on which a consumer would prefer based on how they would use the item!

Joshua, Telstra DB
So this phone can be purchased on-line at what looks like the same price as the Lumia 920.
Not the smartest idea Telsta has had.
This will be the second flagship 4G Windows 8 smartphone won’t have in store for customers get to play with and visually be impressed. It’s no way to promote a great alternate.
If Telstra is more intested in promoting Android phones then you have really missed the boat by not having what many reviewers a saying is the absolute best at the moment and that is the LG Nexus 4. Half the price of the Galaxy S3 and more capable.
You really need to rethink your marketing strategy.
How can you possibly have exclusive rights to a product and then have little or no stock.
So where is the phone then, cant see it.
Hey David,
If you want to get the phone on a plan (consumer not business) you can go to this link : http://www.telstra.com.au/personal/
From there, Select : Mobiles on plans, select the plan type and the the HTC 8X shows up to be picked as your phone with the order
