Telstra to bring Nokia Lumia 920 to 4G smartphone range
Filed under: 4G, Lumia 920, Nokia, Smartphone
If you have read any of my previous blogs here on Telstra Exchange you will know that I am something of a Windows Phone fan.
So when the news hit yesterday that Telstra were bringing the Nokia Lumia 920, the first Nokia smartphone that supports Telstra’s ultra-fast 4G network, it’s safe to say that I almost keeled over with excitement.
Nokia PureView iThis new Smartphone is packed with features, let’s take a quick look at a few of them.
What is wireless recharging?
Wireless recharging technology enables you to recharge your phone by simply placing it on a soap-bar like dock, ‘Fat boy’ pillow or an NFC-equipped charging stand. Still want more?
An NFC chip embedded in its base can also be used to launch an app when you place it in the dock. So, put a Nokia Lumia 920 on a dock keep it charged AND automatically open your music player (or alarm clock) all at once.
What is PureView?
Nokia PureView imaging is the latest Nokia innovation including floating lens technology. Nokia says the camera takes in five times more light than competing smartphones without using flash so you can snap clear, bright pictures (and video) indoors and at night. It also compensates for hand movement while the photo is being taken.
Want speed and high end tech?

I think this is quite simply, a genius smartphone and a game changer, especially coupled with Telstra’s national 4G service.
Pricing, availability and colour range for the Nokia Lumia will be announced at the end of October 2012. I for one can’t wait!
Stay informed, register your interest in the Nokia Lumia 920 here: www.telstra.com.au/nokia
What colour will you be ordering?

When can we expect availability and pricing to be anounced on the Lumia 920 for Telstra?
Cost ? Availability? Come on Microsoft have had their announcement so what are you waiting for?
Official Australian release in 5 minutes. Telstra do what any carrier worth a damn has already done and get some prices and dates on your site. GET EM UP!!!
Gizmodo is reporting a release on Telstra from late November. Still no set date

Hi Brendan, did you find out about the Secure SIM?
Also any word on plan pricing yet? As I see that Nokia have release AUS outright RRP of $829
http://www.wpdownunder.com/?p=6726#more-6726
HDizzler, We don’t have any plans to introduce this and check out Dan’s latest blog for all the deets on the 920.
Official Nokia statement, “end of November”: http://press.nokia.com.au/the-nokia-lumia-920-and-820-arrive-in-australia-next-month/
This seems so far awayyyyyyy
Apparently to purchase a Nokia 920 outright from Telstra will cost $829.
On the other hand I just walked into a Harvey Norman store and they have a special pre-order price of $699 for the 920.
Think about it. Given how fast technology changes, do you want to be in a contract for 2 years, paying $65-$100+ per month?
I have been waiting so long for this phone. I have just seen that Harvey Norman has it on preorder, with a release date of the 15th of November. Why haven’t we heard anything yet Telstra. My plan expired a month ago and i’m hanging out for this phone. I read on an artical that Telstra has released prices but I can not find them on your sight. I NEED INFORMATION
Thanks Brendan, it is a shame that the Secure SIM wont be utilised
It seems like Telstra does not care. I want to support Australian businesses however if you guys don’t work that hard then don’t blame the consumers to seek services elsewhere.
This is the latest info I’m aware of. That said…we should be seeing Pre-order and coming soon info about the lumia 920 NOW on telstra webstite…CMON TELSTRA!!!! You’re missing out on potential sales!!!

If I get the Nokia Lumia 920 on contract, will I still be able to use the new 4G sim in my old 3G handsets?
Hi Spatch. Provided it’s the same sim format, yes you can.
Yes! When When When? I’m even switching from another carrier to get this phone…. so I neeeeeed to know! I’ve been patiently waiting but it’s getting too much!
Hi Brendan / Dan –
Can you please ask the tech team / product team behind the Lumia 920 if Telstra will be supporting DATASENSE – the new WP8 capability where call and data usage is tracked from the carrier/plan and displayed within embedded WP8 centre/app/features?
Thanks.
Oh and folks – don’t give up hope that we might still see these babies available BEFORE the end of the month
Hi Sheeds, Hope you’re well. I’m told we will not be supporting DATASENSE. The Data Sense service isn’t incompatible with our network at this time.
That said, we provide many ways to monitor and manage your data via My Account and apps like TelstraOne & Telstra 24×7.
Brendan
DataSense is data volume tracking on the phone, not from the network. Not only can DataSense tell you your overall data usage, but can display the amount used by each network application.
It is also going to be far more reliable, accurate and trustworthy than a carrier-centric data usage report. By most accounts, Telstra data usage reports are reporting inaccurately, to the point were users can be significantly overcharged for usage. Which, of course, is not good at all.
Apparently, Telstra’s pre-paid data usage metrics are more accurage. Which isn’t surprising, because inaccuracies in this service model could result in Telstra loosing significant amounts of money.
I’ll be keeping track of all my data usage with DataSense, and will use it to question any discrepancies that may be highlighted when compared against Telstra’s reports.
Hopefully, I may get lucky and never have a problem with data usage and data reporting.
With regard to NFC payments, I see that Telstra have already developed the technology for secure SIM:
http://telstraenterprise.com/productsservices/paymentstransactions/payments/Pages/TelstraContactlessPayments.aspx
So what is stopping Telstra making it available for the new Windows Phone 8 devices that support this same technology ??
So we have had the big announcement and WP8 looks great, and I have signed up to keep informed but have received nothing from them yet. I hear rumours that Telstra will offer the Nokia Lumia 920 on $60mth plan plus $5 handset repayment, but I can not see where I can sign up… or when we expect it will be available… Can Telstra give us any more information?
I second that!
Any word yet on release or pricing details for the Nokia Lumia 920??
When the pre-order will be available, pls?
5th Nov today where is it?
waiting, waiting …
still waiting….
Waiting…
waiting…
Still waiting…
Is this a fantasy come true?
Is this a dream that I’ve waited for?
What am I supposed to do?’
920 where art thou!
I’ve been checking on Lumia 920 news everyday, I want to have my hands on this phone sooo bad it drives me crazy!
Please bring it out soon pretty pweese
Can haz Lumia 920?????
While AT&T has it for US$99.00 with 2 years contract or US$499.99 outright (locked), I wonder how much we will get it here?
David I’d say a great deal more, plan(s) are no where near as good in Australia. More important AT&T are actually selling it!!
Another week and still diddly from Telstra. Didn’t really expect anything from them though!
I saw the 920 available via Kogan this weekend but still not on telstra site
Very odd
Hey guys,
Colours and pricing were promised at the end of October… now the 12 of Nov… any chance of an update?
Any danger?
I phoned up today got nothing there too
This is the longest and must disorganised product launch ever.
It has been two months since the 920 was announced and we still have no idea on when it will be available. The “end of November” was announced but that is just lip service in a poor attempt to keep some interest.
I have heaps of friends who have already given up and gone with other phones.
Yo Nerdic, That Would be a good idea however the DataSense app is carrier enabled when the carrier uses the DataSense compression protocol. As Telstra have said on this thread, they are not supporting DataSense and that means that the DataSense application will not be enabled on your phone. I comfies this with research, a quick google will show people I other countries saying they have no DataSense app etc as it is not enabled by their carrier, so unfortubately your plan, whilst a good one, will not work with a Lumia 920 on Telstra at present.
The 920 is available on business phones now, here:
https://www.telstra.com.au/online-shop/business/business-phone-plan.cfm?flow=bizPostpaid&plantype=tbpp-130-handset
*cough*
*looks at date*
*looks at Telstra*
Pre orders are being taken today!! With a speaker :0)
Ok so like…the world is going to end on 21 Dec and the only way our world can be saved is the 920.
Why have you forsaken me?
Is it a blue tick phone ?
As yet no news on that Rod.
I talked to ‘ Telstra online Chat ‘ and the girl said it is not a blue tick phone. Should I believe this Brendan or wait as you have commented ; no news yet on the blue tick ?
A “Steven” Team Leader at Telstra said I would be able to still order one today as I was having problems online and now it’s sold out? Worst company ever!!
Will it be a blue tick phone?
Hi Stuart
No, it didn’t get the Blue Tick from Telstra.
Hi Dan have you heard any news on Nokia Lumia 920
Battery drain issue
Not that I am aware of Martin.
Where will we be able to buy accessories for this phone.
whats the delivery date now ?
Hmmmmmmm dis is wooow awesome
I would like to know who to blame for the stuff up on the release of the 920, is it Telstra, Nokia or Microsoft? They were taking orders for the 920 on the 13th November, now almost 4 weeks later and nothing. It’s driving me crazy. I think Telstra want people to buy the HTC.
Hi Steve,
Thanks for the feedback. It’s been a popular device which caused stock to run out the door quickly. The good news is that more stocked shipped yesterday and will be sent to our stores of the next 24 hours so there is light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks for your patience!
- Gigi.
Nokia and Telstra; Nokia production is to low given they showed off the phone around a month before Microsoft released WP8 they should have had them all boxed ready to ship. Inexcusible that phones weren’t available to purchase they day of release. Telsta orders were also way off! They’d had people asking about it online and instore since the MS release, first day of pre orders the web site goes into meltdown. After that it’s sold out more tomorrow, sold out more tomorrow. JUST ORDER HEAPS OF THEM!
The sooner carriers stop selling phones the better. You don’t purchase a new PC from an ISP do you? Looking forward to MS opening doors in Sydney in 2013 any new product I’ll just walk in and drop some cash!
Any news regarding whether the Nokia Lumia 920 is rated as blue tick?
Why is it taking so long? Or is it already determined as negative?
I’d like to know what plans are available for the 920 as of December 14th as I didn’t see anything for the 920 displayed at my closest Telstra store
signed up a white one yesterday in Melbourne central t shop. it doesn’t have speaker and wireless charger.
just want to know if anyone got wireless charger free?
Has anyone else had any issues with the flash on their lumia 920 not working
