2012 Telstra Racing Recruit – Automotive opportunity of a lifetime

Trading-Post-Racing-V8-Supercar-header

My time as the Telstra Racing Recruit has been amazing.  From the application process until now, there hasn’t been a dull moment.  It’s hard to believe that it’s been a year since I applied for a chance to become the very first recruit and I haven’t looked back.  Everyone at Ford Performance Racing made me feel like part of the team from the day I commenced work and my role within the team this year has been bigger and better than I could have ever imagined.  There have been lots of ups and downs along the way and while it’s easier to watch the racing on the TV at home, it’s nowhere near as rewarding and exciting as being on track and part of the team!

One of the things I’ve noticed is how important it is to be able to work in a team environment.  Everyone has a role and whatever it may be, it’s performed to the best of that person’s ability.  Team skills are important in any field, but are paramount for the race team to work with precision.

I’ve been a Ford supporter all my life, so getting to work with Ford Performance Racing is an absolute thrill.  A huge highlight for me this year has been to travel with the team to races.  I’ve been all around Australia and New Zealand and will soon be going to Abu Dhabi, which will be an amazing experience.

The Telstra Racing Recruit program has given me an opportunity to work in a field of automotive that I would never have thought possible, particularly while completing my apprenticeship.  The experience and opportunity is completely different to anything I’ve ever done before and I would urge anyone that’s eligible to apply for the chance to become this year’s Telstra Racing Recruit to go for it, as this chance doesn’t come around very often.

It’s a big commitment, but it’s the experience of a lifetime.  So good luck and I look forward to working with the new recruit shortly!
