HeroMessages turned into a masterpiece

When Telstra asked me to get involved with their HeroMessage® campaign I was really excited, not only about the concept, but also the ability for myself and other Australians to have a positive impact on our athletes competing at the London Olympic Games.

For me the London 2012 Olympic Games are an opportunity to showcase to the world the incredible talent we as Australians have in our wonderful athletes.  We get to confirm our reputation as world beating champions, driven by determination and pride in our country.

I’m a bit of an ordinary sportsman myself but during the games I get to live out my dreams watching my favourite Olympic events on the TV, which usually involves a bit of standing on the lounge and shouting!

Telstra HeromessagesTelstra HeroMessage is all about connecting the nation to inspire our athletes in London. As an artist, I know just how important inspiration is to propel you forward. Inspiration is the fuel that drives our dreams and it gives legs on our ideas and abilities.

Sometimes we don’t realise the impact we can have on people with our words. Your HeroMessage can have a profound effect on the performance of an athlete – WOW! That one piece of advice or encouragement could be just what someone needs to inspire them to gold.

The HeroMessage launch day in Sydney last week was brilliant! The highlight for me was that I got to meet and work with two of Australia’s great former Olympic champions – Cathy Freeman and Geoff Huegill. They were both awesome to work with and really got involved in the painting. We used all sorts of Olympic sporting equipment to kick start the painting including a BMX bike, boxing gloves, hockey sticks and a basketball just to name a few.

For me the painting on the day couldn’t have gone better; there was a real sense of action and excitement that came through on the canvas which is an absolutely brilliant start to the painting.

I am so excited about getting the painting back to my studio in QLD where it will be completed over the course of the Olympic Games. I will be drawing inspiration from all the Telstra HeroMessages being sent through to our athletes in London and translating them onto the canvas. I’ll say it again – WOW!

This will be a really unique masterpiece, so come on Australia get your HeroMessages in and inspire our athletes to go for gold.  Let them know you and the entire nation of Australia is standing behind them all the way and will be cheering them on to the finish line!
