App of the week: MapMyRUN+

If there’s one thing I really like, it’s winning a running race. The only problem is that I never have anybody to race against.

Enter ‘MapMyRUN+’ for Android, iPhone and Blackberry.

This neat little free app will track you when you exercise (be it a run, walk, bike ride, swim, hike, gym session, sprint, stair climb or any variation of these) and record your time and route so that you can race against yourself the next time you do that same workout.  There are a few extra features if you upgrade to a premium membership.

It lets you make exercise goals, connect with friends who also use the app, plan your workout route and monitors your nutrition and calorie intake for optimum bikini-ready results.

Synchronized with the well-known ‘MapMyRun’ website where you can find running events, groups, suggested workouts and nutrition plans; the app perfectly complements the website by giving you a little coach and nutritionist in your pocket.

While I personally am not a fan of sharing my workouts on Facebook or Twitter, it’s nice to know I have the option should I ever beat Usain Bolt’s 100m record and would like to tell the world about it.

This gem of an app is a fantastic way of monitoring your fitness and progress and lets your competitive side shine by challenging you to beat your last workout (or your friends’ workouts).
