HOW TO: get call details for your Telstra account
Filed under: billing, consumer, how to, my account, paperless bill
Unless you have a photographic memory, you probably can’t remember all of your friends phone numbers, but did you know there’s an easy way to associate nicknames with your the phone numbers on your online bill? Although it might prove embarrassing to see just how often you call your significant other, you’ll probably find it a great way to easily see who you’ve called and when.
You can also group certain types of calls into groups in your online bill. This can be really handy if you’re making both personal and business calls, and need to claim certain phone numbers for tax purposes. Just add all of your business contacts into a Caller Group, and you can easily generate a report for tax purposes.
If you want to view call details for your Telstra account, here’s how.
Option 1: Sign up for Email Bill
If you switch from a paper bill to an email bill, you’ll receive itemised call details in your bill. Find out more.
Option 2: Access My Account
Log into My Account (or register if you haven’t already done so). From the top menu, click Billing & Payments > Online Billing > View Bills. Select your service (e.g. mobile phone) then select Full Itemised Usage.
Setting up Caller Groups
If you need to split your phone bill between housemates, or want to track calls to particular numbers for tax purposes, you might be interested in setting up Caller Groups. In My Account, click Billing & Payments. On the next page, click Manage My Online Bill > Allocate Calls to Groups.
You might also be interested in changing certain phone numbers to being displayed as names you recognise. In My Account, click Billing & Payments. On the next page, click Manage My Online Bill > Allocate Names to Numbers.
Pretty handy if you need to check the details of your bill… in fact, for data nerds like me, it’s just interesting to see how often you’re calling certain people.

Leigh, have you posted this in CrowdSupport as well? I’m sure the users there will also appreciate the tip
Cheers
Gerd
Hi Leigh , I think having access to my bill online is good and i can access and check usage at any time, but I have an issue with checking recent history on my phone services as in the last 2 months the listing of the calls are all over the place ie not in chronological order as they were previously ..maybe due to the “my account” updates and changes . I have listed this through “Crowd Support “.I find this a negative to all of the improvements that have been completed over recent times to the Telstra Web Page, and all of of the other pages behind the links.
Leigh
This is all very well , but how do you physically allocate the number to the group ? The help topic shows you how to set up a group but does not state how to include a number under that group !!
Would be a FANTASTIC feature for small business.
Are you up to the challenge ?
Nice Photo, by the way
Leigh,
How do you view your recent calls details for your Telstra account through the new website?? I have noticed that it tells you the total amount of recent charges but you cannot open this up and see exactly which numbers you called etc. like you used to.
Thanks
Aimee
Hi Aimee, sorry for the delay in replying. Here’s how you can view call details:
1. Log in to My Account
2. Click the mobile phone or home phone service you’d like to view details for
3. Click Usage on the right-hand side of the page
4. Click “View Detailed Call Usage”
5. You can then view itemised call usage.
You’ll notice that this takes you to an older page on the site – we’re working on moving this into a more intuitive place on the new My Account design. Stay tuned!
The new website is apalling and is apallingly slow if you’re unfortunate enough to have adsl 2. Used to be able to download in csv format and view all alls made. Now if you’re lucky you can download a pdf which tells you absolutely nothing. If you go into a store you receive an itemised receipt and should be able to with Telstra too. Good luck at tax time. Live Chat is useless for assistance in dealing with it. I for one will be taking it external to Telstra because I am sick of the so-called service – and unfortunately when you live in rural areas there’s no such thing as choice.
What have you done! Where are the call details that were previously available? All that is listed is the total cost and your instructions bear no resemblance to the website that I can now access. If this is what people “asked for” then what was the damned stupid question. This is more like “back to the future”, a retrograde step at best. An account is supposed to provide details of ‘services’ given in exchange for fee paid. No service, so why are you asking for your fee?
Hi Carlos.
Stay tuned!
One word – RUBBISH! is how I would describe these instructions. At least for 17 September 2012 and the ‘new’ billing format.
Hi leigh,
Yes, not intuitive. Tried that a few times but got thrown out, no connection. Got in this time. That still leaves me with the problem that once the account has been generated I lose the ability to check and that is exactly what has happened. I used to be able to check on past accounts but seeing as someone in their wisdom? has decided that the details are no longer required, then I can’t. It is after you receive an account that you see something to query. Again, if I have an account rendered by any other organisation I get the details, or, have access to the details as once I did with my Telstra account!
1. Log in to My Account
2. Click the mobile phone or home phone service you’d like to view details for
3. Click Usage on the right-hand side of the page
4. Click “View Detailed Call Usage”
5. You can then view itemised call usage.
I have problems with these instructions. There is nowhere that says usage for me to click. Please help as I require the equivalent to the old CSV version for tax purposes.
I also can’t make sense of these instructions. How do I find the detailed call lists for previous bills. The only one I can find is for current billing period.
Latest online bill has no call details available. Leigh’s instructions don’t match what I see.
Help no phone for 3 weeks, why? and when will it be restored
thank you
Hi there Anthony,
Oh no! This is not good! We have dedicated customer support team who will be able to chat to you about getting it restored. The best way to access that support in an efficient manner is to use the links above and connect with us on Facebook or CrowdSupport. You can also contact our support team 24×7 on Twitter @Telstra.
Hi Leigh (Staff Member),
You have suggested the following for accessing call details:
“1. Log in to My Account
2. Click the mobile phone or home phone service you’d like to view details for
3. Click Usage on the right-hand side of the page
4. Click “View Detailed Call Usage”
5. You can then view itemised call usage.”
These instructions aren’t applicable on the screen I see. There is no “Usage” button on the right-hand side of the page, or anywhere else.
Would you please provide updated instructions?
Hi there Brian,
I’ve just double checked the instructions that Leigh gave you and they are all correct. The ‘Usage’ tab is located under the ‘Plan Details’ tab on the right hand side of the screen.
If you’re still having problems, I recommend having a quick chat to our 24×7 Customer Service crew online via LiveChat here: http://tinyurl.com/24×7-service
Thanks.
I would like to view a previous itemised bill, and following the directions above I can only view the calls that have yet to be billed. Can you explain how to reach the itemised lists of previous bills. Thank you.
