Telstra QWERTY- Touch (T60) review

Stuck for a last minute stocking stuffer? Why not take a look at the (aptly named) Telstra QWERTY-Touch? This $129 prepaid phone packs a lot of punch.
Featuring a QWERTY keyboard and 2.6” QVGA capacitive touch colour screen (hence the name…), Android 2.3 operating system, an FM Radio and media player, the QWERTY-Touch is available in 2 colours – Raven Black and Flamingo Pink.
The keyboard is great on the QWERTY-Touch. Typing text messages and emails is as good an experience as on far more expensive handsets, and in some cases – a lot better. The touch screen also responds well – but screen size may not suite everyone. Using WhereiS® Navigator, I was able to adequately expand the screen to read street names.
From the Android Market I downloaded a couple of free apps, and then jumped onto Facebook® to see what my friends were up to. Then I jumped onto Mobile FOXTEL from Telstra to watch the news and some sport. I found the video from Foxtel was clear and did not suffer from a small screen at all. Both sound and vision were very clear.
Next the obligatory games were downloaded – and even though I am used to larger screen devices these days, I found the gaming experience to be up to standard.
The QWERTY-Touch is also expandable – up to 32GB of expandable memory via a MicroSD card to store your favourite music. Of course, the standard features of speakerphone, Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, alarm, calendar, stopwatch and voice recorder are included.
Talk time is up to 180 minutes and standby time up to 200 hour, and the QWERTY-Touch weighs 126g. Running on the Next G® network, the QWERTY-Touch has HSPDA 7.2mbps and has a 2 mega-pixel camera.
All up, a great entry level Android smartphone just waiting for you to take home.

Do you need to set up the email account before you start to use the qwerty touch? The first thing that came up was an email address that I don’t have, I do have a hotmail account. But no idea how to use this phone as no instruction booklet in the box.
Cheers
Joy
you dont have to have a google email account (thats what im assuming your talking about) its just an added feature, down the bottom you can click to skip that step.
Just bought one, been debloked, would now love to use it but in French ! Maybe someone can tell me how ?

Hello Lynn, Here is the manual. You can download the Telstra QWERTY- Touch (T60) instruction manual here.
your phone is stupid and how do i work it if there is no manual to tell me how to work it dumb dumb dumb stupid stupid dumb i think that i will take it back i cant even get the menu up
I just emailed you a manual. Hope this helps.
Phone comes with ‘built in’ email account MobileEmail@MyEmail.telstra.com which cannot be removed (8 consultants and 95 minutes later…) and seems to be used primarily to deliver unsolicited product offers from Telstra, aka spam. You can set this account to never communicate, but cannot remove it. It’s a pretty cynical marketing ploy that I’ve not seen on any other Telstra phones, and the only blemish on what is otherwise a decent basic smartphone.
No. Not talking about gmail. I called ZTE and they assure me its added to the phone by request fron Telstra and its not possible to remove. Sure enough, the only thing our users ever get at that forced address is Telstra product offers (spam).

Can you use Free Facebook with this phone or do you need credit??
Do you have to pay for Facebook or any other social networks? Or does it come out of your credit?
How can I unlock the phone using the qwerty keyboard?
How do you set the alarm? I have looked at the manual but it doesn’t say how to set the alarm?
is there any way to get a case for this phone, i have looked just about every where and cant find one. im really worried about dropping it?
I’m with you Nerylie, how can anyone sell a phone without a manual? Have had to get adult children to guide me through and even they had trouble. Not good enough, have had to download 99 pages of details to work out how to do basic things, eg receive and send calls and txt messages. Do not even want it for complicated things eg:net etc. Are all the people who sell these things computer \geeks\ because the rest of are not!!
Hi Anne. I appreciate you taking the time to send this feedback through. Many of the new devices coming into the market will have the user manual pre-installed on the handset. The reason that these devices only have a manual available for download are:
-Reducing the environmental footprint on the device
-Reducing the size of the packaging for the handset (Again reduces the environmental footprint)
-Having the manual pre-installed on the handset also means that it is accessible when the end user needs it rather than being away from their manual and they require troubleshooting.
I have purchased a qwerty t60 and have no idea how to drive it because it doesn’t have a hand book. can some one give me some idea on how to obtain one
Hello Brad, Here is a digital copy of the manual. You can download the Telstra QWERTY- Touch (T60) instruction manual here.
Mine does not start up. It gets stuck on the Telstra logo for a few minutes then retries continuously. Is there something I can do or do I need to return it.
On the bottom left hand corner there is a little gap, get a 5c piece and pry it open. It will be a little tight at first but don’t worry.
It will use all of your credit, even if your not using the phone. I just lost 20 bucks over night cause I left the network on. Even if you use 0.facebook.com, it still uses your credit. I hate this phone. Its crap. I prefer a brick phone that will let me use facebook for free.
Hi Joy77. There are two options to contact us here as these links get you straight through to people who can help with this issue – you’ve come through to our corporate blog site here and I’d highly recommend using one of these new avenues to get directly in touch with Telstra. You can click to ‘Ask the Crowd’ in a forum or you can go through to our ’24/7 Facebook page’. Look up top right of this site.
