Thing you need to know
Pre-Paid handsets are locked to Telstra’s network.

I’d like to know when the Samsung Focus S or the HTC Titan will become available…
Theyare both NextG compatible and outstanding handsets!
Nexus S anytime soon? At a price competitive to the iPhone 4S?
Nexus S??????? It’s been out for over a year.
I think you mean Galaxy Nexus???
You mean Galaxy Nexus right?
The Nexus S, and when it does The Glaxey Nexus will be Vodaphone only which sucks because vodasuck well suck. I wonder if Telstra will bring out the first LTE 4G phone the HTC Rezound like it was leaked I am thinking the will announce that ether Dec or Jan (knowing Telstra) thats the phone to get (for now) but something better might come out when my contract is up (march)
how about news on some new WINDOWS PHONEs??
AAhhhhhhhhh!
What about Windows Phone 7.5 “Mango” Generation 2 handsets? C’mon guys any news please? INDIA has release dates for some devices….but we don’t!
Any ETA at least on when you may deign to let us know?
Thanks,
Sheeds.
Any chance of a Nokia Lumia 800 announcement?
Where’s the news on the on the Gen 2 Windows Phone. they are being released everywhere else around the world???
Not all of us are wrapped in Android or iOS sameness
What about new Windows phone 7 handsets? Can we get an ETA on those?
Unbelievable, where are the Windows Phones, HTC Titan, Radar, Samsung Focus S? Has Telstra signed off on Windows Phone, not profitable or popular enough??? I’m surprised and shocked that their is not one second generation windows phone in the post above, keeping customers means keeping a good cross section of devices and OS’s in store. I don’t believe this is premium partnership
The Nokia Lumia 800, HTC Titan and Radar are awesome handsets. Any word on these for a Christmas present?
When are the new Windows Phone 7.5 hardware coming out? Either a Titan or Focus S or Nokia 800? Something? The above news is pretty drab considering it’s all another round of kids phones or android phones.
Come on – where are the WP7 handsets! Samsung Focus S, Focus Flash, or even the HTC Titan. Enough with the android/iphones already….
Would REALLY like the HTC Titan to come down under some time soon. Otherwise ill just import it from the uk.
I want the HTC Titan. It’s a NextG Compatible phone. I will leave my other phone provider and join Telstra the second this phone becomes available!
Who manufacturers the Telstra QWERTY Touch? HTC or ZTE? What is the generic (non-Telstra) model name or number?
Hi Gregory. Telstra QWERTY Touch is made by ZTE.
What about any of the new WP7 phones?
I’ve been off contract and able to upgrade for a year now, a 32GB windows phone 7 with SAMOLED screen would get me to re-sign
.
32GB Focus S please!
Yeah, where are the new Windows Phones???
I want the HTC Titan
Hi eveyone, We will be adding new Windows Phone smarpthones to our range in the coming months but have nothing to announce just yet.
Nothing to announce! Coming months? Does that mean 2012? OMG!
Checkout my Windows Phone – 12 months on editorial here (relevant Telstra content in my post!)
http://www.wpdownunder.com/?p=3096
Sheeds.
Any news of the new Gen 2 Windows Phones? When are the new Nokias going to be available in Australia?
Why don’t your staff know anything about WIndows Phones?
yep – bring on the 2nd gen windows phones, I want to ditch my android already!
I know, that comment threw me. Half the world has their hardware announced or available and where are we left? What’s going on with Telstra?
To all those complaining about the lack of Windows Phone devices, bear in mind that the service providers don’t typically release a whole lot of post-paid devices at this time of the year…
Yes you’ll usually get a couple, but this time of the year is all about pre-paid, which can easily be given to others as a present.
New post-paid handsets usually start to appear in the first quarter of a new year, when the whole concept of giving a present doesn’t really apply anymore… Most of the service providers do it this way.
Thanks for that informative explanation, Gregory. It’s still frustrating. Some of us will want to buy the new generation of Windows phones pre-paid. At the very least we’d like to know where things are heading – i.e. whether these new handsets are going to be released or not. The current way of doing business, where each carrier gets exclusivity over a different model, is also frustrating, because we don’t know which carrier will be releasing which models. Telstra also makes “adjustments” to phones that are in other respects NextG compatible, making it difficult for us to know whether we can risk purchasing phones from overseas and have them work on Telstra’s NextG network. In the absence of answers to any of the above, we’re left constantly wondering and waiting…
What about Windows Phone devices?
I would very much like to buy a HTC Titan of the Samsung Focus S, but no-one in Australia can give me any details about them!
Hey Telstra, why don’t you swoop in and be the saviours for Aussie Windows Phone fans? Throw some support behind it. Don’t tell me having Android, iOS and Windows Phone on Telstra Next G isn’t a great soundbyte.
In the coming months. that’s a start.. not a good one! What about a little more clarification – even a closer timeline.
I sure hope there is going to be some decent WinPhone advertising.. (sick of the android/iPhone love and seeming distain of Windows Phones from a SUPPOSED Microsoft Premier Partner)
As you see there is some interest in the Windows phone OS, how about Telstra show some Interest???
Great to see …
A good swag of interest for the WindowsPhone 2nd Gen handsets (Samsung Focus S or Flash, HTC Titan or Radar, Nokia Lumia 800 or 710).
Bad to see …
No announcements from the Premier MS partner and most of the staff know nothing or close to nothing on these handsets. (NO – THEY ARE NOT WINDOWS MOBILE) – sick of hearing that by the Telstra retail staff. WTF
What is the outright price on the Xperia arc S expected to be?
Hi Gregory. The outright price for the Xperia arc S is $600.
That’s a pretty reasonable price, especially for a brand-new, high-end device from Telstra.
I’ll tell you, between NextG, the longer warranties, the updates to the pricing and web sites, the social media support, 4G and countless other things I could list, Telstra is starting to truly become the network I always hoped she’d be…
I had my doubts when David Thodey took over (I’ve met him a few times when I was at Telstra, and didn’t think too much of him), but he has actually surprised me and done a lot of good for the Big T, bringing her to the forefront of telecommunications in Australia and making a network to truly be feared!
Just another reason not to bother with Telstra – so many great new Windows phone device with oodles of mass market appeal – the Titan, Lumia, etc – and you guys can’t even give us a release date.
There are third world countries with release dates for these phones, yet our “national carrier” continues to stuff us around here.
Seriously, no wonder we go elsewhere. Get your act together Telstra, you are a disgrace.
Come on Telstra!
Where are the 2nd Gen Windows Phones… Looking at picking up a Titan or Samsung Focus S!
You have the best network, how about you couple that with some fantastic Windows Phones!
Also can you please have your retail shop staff trained s to the pros and cons of each mobile OS, every time I head into a Telstra store, 99% of the staff no nothing about Windows Phone and continuously push the iPhone and Android Phones…
They do push just what they’re personally interested in. My mother had an iphone4 which was stolen. She goes into the Telstra shop and the guy sells her a Galaxy S2. It’s so complicated she can’t use it. It’s completely wasted. I then quizzed the guy about it when I was next in and he said “iphones are complete rubbish, I haven’t sold a single one”.
Think about that comment. My old mother, needs something super simple. A windows phone or iphone is perfect. But the young tech guy decides he knows what’s best, and sells her a complex phone she can’t even use.
It’s bizzarre. And, as the rest have said, if you ask about windows phones they look at you blankly then walk you over to outdated hardware and software (the old stock of windows phones on 7.0) and sort of say it’s pretty and they’re surprised nobody purchases them more.
From my time in the telecommunications industry, I know that certain products and services earn the stores a higher commission and are generally preferred to be sold…
The first time I worked at Telstra, that’s all they did- push the products and services that earnt to the store the most, but when I went back and worked for them a second time, their attitudes had changed considerably.
Yes Telstra still prefers for certain products and services to be sold, but staff aren’t “pushed” to sell these products and services, instead being encouraged to sell products and services that meet the customer’s needs.
Obviously some people don’t pay as much attention to this as they should, which appears to have happened in your case Rob, but that is how staff are trained from day one…
Have you tried speaking to the store manager (instead of the staff member involved)?
Depending on how long ago this was, they may or may not be able to help you out further…. I can’t guarantee anything as I no longer work for Telstra, but most of the store managers (well, all of them I would hope!) have your interests at heart and would gladly do what they can to help.
After all, if you’re not happy with the service you received, you’re certainly not going to go back, are you?
Is Telstra looking at getting the Nokia Lumia 710 or 800? These Windows Phones look unreal.
Thanks
The Nokia Lumia 800 does not support the 850Mhz band that Telstra NextG uses, so it will be a while until Telstra get one that supports their network if at all.
Actually @Ash, not sure where @James is getting his information from but there’s two sources showing that Lumia 800 DOES support “HSDPA 850″ (GSMArena) or “3G 850 (NextG/Vodafone 850/US3G)” (Mobicity).
The thing that Nokia Lumia 800 lacks though is a Front Facing Camera, if you can cope with that – go for it.
According to GSMArena, the Nokia Lumia 710 is the model that does not support W-CDMA 850MHz… The higher-end model, the Nokia Lumia 800 natively supports W-CDMA 850MHz, as used by Telstra on their NextG network.
Nokia Lumia 710 specifications at GSMArena:
* http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_lumia_710-4276.php
* http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_lumia_800-4240.php
Confirmed on Nokia’s web site site:
* http://www.nokia.co.uk/gb-en/products/phone/lumia710/specifications/ (Nokia Lumia 710)
* http://www.nokia.co.uk/gb-en/products/phone/lumia800/specifications/ (Nokia Lumia 800)
From what I can tell, the Nokia Lumia 800, which Telstra should theoretically offer at some point in the near future, appears to offer the following over the Nokia Lumia 710:
* AMOLED display (the Nokia Lumia 710 has a TFT display)
* 16GB of internal storage (the Nokia Lumia 710 only offers 8GB)
* 8MP digital still camera (the Nokia Lumia only offers a 5MP digital still camera)
* Dual LED-flash (a brighter flash for the digital still camera – the Nokia Lumia 710has only one LED-flash)
* Far longer usage times.
Check out the side-by-side comparison for yourself here:

Will Telstra be launching the Galaxy Nexus? Quite keen to see that device taking advantage of the fast Telstra network
Guys – Telstra has Australia’s broadest range of Windows Phones. We expect to increase the range further in the coming months as new handsets become available. We will keep you posted I promise.
Cheers, Dan.
Telstra…..we need windows phones…Telstra shops just promote iphones and android. I dont have a problem with that but at least you should have windows phones for people to buy as well. Please release the new phones ASAP.
Argh, no new windows phone models. There goes outright purchase for telstra =(
HTC titan or nokia lumia PLEASE!!
It’s interesting reading this thread and others. I’ve been looking around the net and I have the feeling windows phones are about to explode in a big way. Everybody is talking about them, purchasing them (except telstra customers of course, we can’t get them) and generally, it will be an interesting year ahead to see what kind of market growth the phones get.
Whilst I’m doubtful Windows Phone will “explode”, Microsoft has the financial backing to keep it going, even if it’s a complete flop (largely due to patent-related payments from certain Android manufacturers)… Furthermore, history has shown that Microsoft are determined to have a successful “mobile” operating system, regardless of how badly the odds may or may not be stacked against them (Microsoft has been making “mobile” operating systems since Windows CE 1.0 in 1996, which Windows Phone is based on).
As for the availability of handsets, there’s not a whole lot out there and Microsoft’s “Android/iPhone-killer” handsets, the Nokia Lumia 710 Lumia 800, have not been released in most markets as yet…
I’m not a huge Nokia fan so my opinion is a little bias, but the general concensus is that the Lumia 710 and Lumia 800 are THE Windows Phone handsets to have!
It sucks to wait, but if the rumors are anything to go by, these two handsets should be worth waiting for…

It’s not just Telstra in Australia that are ‘lax’ in Windows Phone support. Voda/Optus only have ONE model that you can never find in store
Mind you it is all but impossible to find any (let alone the three) WindowsPhone devices in any Telstra Store.
It is hard to get people to change ecosystems (hope that ZunePass/Windows 8/Xbos helps with windows phone sales once Telstra Staff actually OFFER THE PHONES as an good (under rated) option.
My next phone will be a Windows Phone 7. Why are there no new WP7 handsets offered?
Apple obviously has Telstra in their pocket. Why else would all other new phones take 6 months to release in Australia. Hopefully Samsung will get their way in the courts and get details on Apples dealings with Australian telcos. Bring it on.
Another reason buying from offshore is doing so well.
Am upset that it would appear there will be no new WP7 handsets launched for the 2011 holiday season. In October 2010, when I switched from Vodafone to Telstra specifically to get my hands on the first WP7 handset launched in Australia, the salesperson in the shop convinced me to increase my monthly spend to allow me to upgrade to a new handset in 12 months (instead of waiting the full 24 months).
Seems like all that extra money (around $10 a month) has been a complete waste of money. At this rate it’ll have been 24 months before Telstra offers new phones.
Not impressed at all, really…
Yes I’m another customer after a new Windows Mobile phone.
I find it interesting Dan how you say there will be announcements “as new handsets become available”. I can buy an HTC Titan from an australian store TODAY. Why cant I get one from my prefered mobile provider? Or at least an indication of when its available?
I understand Telstra is a business trying to make money and Windows Mobile isnt a huge part of your market but perhaps its about to be? The main problem here seems to be that you have a growing potential customer base that is feeling ignored and frustrated. Perhaps letting us know what handsets you’ll have and when will defuse this. A the very least it would reduce the temptation of those currently available imports.
It is pretty obvious that WP7 phones aren’t a priority because the original batch from last year didn’t sell well at all. Whilst it would be nice to have the new WP7 phones at Telstra, the reality is that not enough people bought the original batch to prompt Australian carriers to jump behind the second generation WP7 phones.
If Telstra eventually brings out the second generation WP7 phones, I’m most keen to see the HTC Titan, seeing as HD7 was a Telstra exclusive, the Titan would be a nice upgrade from that.
What is obvious is no one bought the original batch of WP7 because Staff a Telstra didn’t know how to use them or sell them. My 70 year old father bought one only because he saw mine. He hasn’t asked me a question on how to use it he just worked it out himself. My mother the on the other hand got talked into a HTC Wildfire by a Telstra shop and has asked me a million questions since.
Telstra Employee, Thanks
Yea, very lacklustre range & no WP7 handsets. Had to buy mine from Mobicity – HTC Titan and it is awesome. Zune Pass next week on 15 Nov and further Xbox integration (especially with new update – btw check out Halo ATLAS app)
@Glenn… okay now I’m keen to hear your take on the Titan.
What is the quality of the camera? Does it have a slightly blue mask on the pics as HTC’s normally do? Or is the whitebalance pretty good?
I’ve been hanging for the Focus S, but if the Titan’s picture quality is good, I’m going Titan, can’t wait for Samsung to announce their ETA.
Troy,
Nah picture quality is awesome, is a 8mp shooter and white balance is good, no blue masking. There are some comparison photos on web between Titan & Focus S, cant remember where though.
You know what my only gripe with it is the small power button, that’s it.
Speed is good, phone fits in my pocket, looks awesome, software is good – HTC has some much better apps rather than my old Samsung Onnia 7. A lot of people thought the resolution would look silly on screen this size – don’t believe it, it still looks beautiful but I have not compared with Focus S which should look shibby with its Super AMOLED.
Also tried Tango (video calling) between Titan & wife Iphone 4 (btw she wants Wp7 after Mango update) and it works awesome. A good replacement until update with Skype integration.
Have any of you used a Windows Phone device AND an Apple device and/or Android device?
It seems to me that many people are purchasing iOS and Android devices in part because they’re popular… I’m a dedicated Android fan, but even I’D be interested to hear how Windows Phone compares to Android and iOS.
Perhaps Telstra should send someone a Windows Phone device for a month or so, and ask that they upload a review (with a focus on the operating system itself) here or on the CrowdSupport forums?
I’m out field for two weeks from the 20th, but I’d be happy to spend a month or so using such a device, and upload a review comparing Windows Phone to Android.
Of course, it doesn’t HAVE to be me – there are plenty of people here, including Telstra staff, that should be able to conduct such an activity…
I’m just putting it out there, I mean, if people can see how Windows Phone compares to iOS and Android with as little bias as possible, well perhaps it might generate more interest in current and upcoming Windows Phone devices?
@Gregory. I have used an iPhone, Android and Windows Phone for a considerable time. I have just had to hand back my Windows Phone, HTC Mozart, at work to be used with a demo kit and I need to organise a replacement. I could just organise another first gen WP7 but as a techie I always want the latest gadgets.
I won’t by and Apple. They make good products but the way you get stuck in their ecosystem is enough to turn me away. Plus their look and feel hasn’t really changed since they started.
Love the freedom of Android but find that it can become a bit bloated over time and starts to slow, I guess that is side affect of real multi-tasking.
What I really miss about my WP7 is its integration with social networking. Once Mango came along I really started to enjoy this. This is something that is only achievable with Android with bloat ware, ICS should fix this, and still not available in iOS.
Out of all the phones I have used, WP7 is definitely the simplest. The App selection is not great but slowly getting there, but at the end of the day I have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 to play with apps. My decision on a future phone will probably come down to which one Telstra releases next, Lumia 800 v Focus S v Galaxy Nexus. Until then Telstra won’t have anther sale to me….
My contract with Vodafone expires at the end of December (finally!) and I really want to get my hands on a new WP7 handset after playing around with a friend’s Mango handset. I have to say I enjoy using it much more than any android handsets that I’ve tried!
Is there any chance of finding out a release date for the HTC Titan or Samsung Focus S?
If I can’t find these out by Christmas I will almost certainly just have to go with a new Android handset on Vodafone or Optus.
We want 2nd gen Windows Phone Mango handsets on Telstra 4G!!
C’mon Telstra, show us why you are Australia’s premier WP retailer.
I don’t want to have to import my much wanted HTC Titan from the UK..
Hey @Mark
From what I understand from all the info I’ve read mate, current WP7′s don’t support LTE. These are coming in 2012. And also from what I read comes by way of the ‘Tango’ update rumoured for release early 2012, (although not sure if the 1st gen (or 2nd gen)), supports LTE with just the update… not enough info has been released to date by Microsoft or manufacturers.
That’s how I’ve read it… anyone else know any other details re: LTE support?
All I want – is a Nokia Lumia 800… Preferably in blue and this side of 2012 thank you.
Windows phone gen 2 devices in aus might Be held back by Microsoft until the big picture expo that starts 30 November so let’s just wish. Also Telstra lte bandwidth seems to be different to Americas one being I think ours is 1800 and Americas or at least AT&Ts is 1900 so if your planning on getting a 4g on comparable phone from overseas check the bandwidths. Remember lte is a technology not a bandwidth so it needs the correct hardware and software comparable with Telstra.
James,
The Melbourne Big Picture MS event is this week (Wed 23rd) – I will be there to check it out. However, on twitter @Windows7au has already confirmed they will not be showing any gen2 handsets in their tech look-see demos.
Cheers,
Sheeds.
At this point the support and general “want factor” for WP7 Gen 2 devices is dominating this thread, does Telstra not feel the need to service consumers and get some, One of those device on inventory, for a great Christmas selling spree?
wow, all these comments about WP7 show how much interest there is in this awesome phone. Why the hell aren’t Telstra (or other providers) getting on top of this??
I have seen the Motorola Defy+ in red and in white. What cool colours are available for sale in Telstra, the red or the white?
I have the iPhone 4s and it is very easy to use and i on the 2nd iPhone and i won’t look back and the phone works very well in country area’s and the phone will make voice and data calls upto 50 km from the tower on telstra next g 850 mhz and are a blue tick phone with telstra and they are quad band umts phone and it is the best iPhone to use in country areas and telstra has the best coverage and i had optus on one phone and telstra on the other and i won’t leave telstra and it is cheaper then optus when i ported the number and i won’t go vodafone and someone i know is porting there number over to telstra
The iPhone isn’t Blue Tick at all, Sean.. and 50km from a tower????
anxiously awaiting news on the new windows phones, i went from my iphone 3g to a 3gs then to android with the samsung galaxy s 2 and was really disapointed by android so i sold that and bought a omnia 7 for $200 after mango dropped and all i can say is wow, im absolutely in love with windows phone 7 over apple and android. and i cant wait to upgrade to a new focus s or lumia 800 or 900 depending on how long that takes, my wife loves it also and wants to sell her iphone as soon as the lumia 800 becomes avaliable. TELSTRA please get with the times and start offering and marketing windows phones better, there is a market for them its just people arnt even aware of these amazing phones
