Aspiring Dj Charlie Munns Visits The Telstra Museum

When 10 year old Charlie Munns of Revesby Heights grows up he’d like to start a career in Radio.
Young Charlie is pictured here at the working ex-ABC announcers’ console on display in the Telstra Museum at Bankstown with his mother Julie-Anne, his grandmother, and his volunteer Ralph McIlwraith and Museum manager Brian Mullins.
Charlie was born in St George Private Hospital, Sydney in April 2001. His mother became concerned when Charlie was seven weeks old that all was not well with his liver and took him to the Westmead Children’s Hospital for diagnosis.
Tests revealed that Charlie had Alpha 1 Anti-trypsin Deficiency which is a genetic liver disease and would need a liver transplant when he was older.
His mother Julie-Anne, and father Grant, both offered to be Charlie’s donor as no donor organs were available. On Remembrance Day (11/11/08) Julie-Anne, (being the most compatible of the two,) donated half of her liver in a 15 hour operation to save Charlie’s life.
Charlie is now 10 years old and is a growing, thriving energetic boy who leads a normal life with full days at school, family holidays and walking the family dog.
He enjoys attending Sydney Radio School at Padstow and was invited by 2GB’s Ben Fordham to co-host for a program for an hour one Friday afternoon last month. Charlie enjoyed his time in the 2GB studio and made him determined to follow-up a career in radio.
Charlie made his third visit to his new-found friends, Brian, Clem, Mal and Ralph at the Telstra Museum this week and told us he loves the museum so much that he wants his mum and dad to sell their house and purchase the museum!
