Blogging for social change
Filed under: Blog For Good, community
It was fantastic to see everyone’s initial enthusiasm for the BlogForGood challenge. You might have been wondering what has happened after our initial launch?
Sometimes great plans meet unexpected challenges. That’s been the case for all of us involved in the BlogForGood project. However- I’m really happy to announce that BlogForGood is going ahead as planned.
Our competition and event dates have changed, but we are still looking for people who want to shine a light on places and communities that need help to raise awareness by affecting social change – for good.
We’d love all of you who see potential in using social media for social change to be part of the BlogForGood project. Here is how you can get involved.
What is Blog For Good again?
For those of you who have not heard about this project before and for some who want a little reminding about what blog for good is- CBM, Problogger and the social media team at the Telstra Exchange blog are hosting a program that will provide one lucky winner with the opportunity to travel to a developing country in Africa with CBM and blog about your experience.
Darren Rowse (Problogger) travelled with CBM this year to Tanzania. While visiting some of our partner projects, Darren wanted to see if he could use his presence on blogs and social media as a voice for those who may never have the opportunity to share their stories. You can learn more about his experience here.
As Darren did, you could get to use your social media savvy to be a mouthpiece for so many whose stories are never shared. The lucky blogger will travel to a country in Africa to learn more about what needs to change and share what you see with your online audience.
How can you be part of it?
We will be holding events in the next few months and we want you to be part of them. Darren will be sharing blog tips and I (Marcus from CBM) will be sharing more about the work of CBM and the type of project we’ll be visiting as part of next years’ blog trip.
We are planning podcasts, a webinar and physical event in Melbourne early next year where you can learn tips on how to make your blog more effective and competition details.
We will be releasing competition dates here on Telstra Exchange plus details of the trip destination in the next few weeks so get blogging and stay tuned.

Hi Marcus,
Thanks for the update. This is such a brilliant project and I’ve been looking forward to it.
I’d love to be involved as I love blogging and Africa so I’m wondering if you’ll plan some events in other areas too? I’m on the Sunshine Coast in QLD but Brisbane would be doable:)
Also, what’s the best way to stay updated? I don’t want to miss anything! I’ve subscribed here by RSS feed…. Am following you on Twitter too but is there an email list?
Cheers! Annabel
Hi Annabel,
Thanks for your enthusiasm
We would love to do some other events in other areas – at this stage we’re not sure if logistically it will work out, but we will definitely be posting if any opportunities arise.
It’s definitely best to stay updated through the RSS feed. You can subscribe to the CBM blog RSS feed as we will also be blogging about anything happening with Blog for Good.
We should have some more info out in the next couple of weeks so look out for that.
Thanks,
Marcus
So great to hear the project is getting off the ground again. As a dietitian I’m interested in following the progress as I convince more health professionals about the power of blogging for social good. I recently wrote a post on this same topic….and linked to your old page…you may want to change that now and direct people over.
