A couple of months ago Legacy and Telstra approached a group of us associated with Legacy to ask us to nominate a song that reminded us of our loved one who lost their lives serving our country.  From this, the Legacy Song Badge was born and I am proud to be associated with this as I remember my father through one of the songs on the badge; The Herd’s Redgum cover of, ‘I was only 19.’

Legacy-songs-badge-thumb-blogThe Legacy Songs Badge campaign highlights Telstra’s sponsorship of Legacy, by using technology to contemporise the image of Legacy and use of the Legacy Songs Badge to raise funds for this very worthwhile organisation.

This year, five Australian artists have donated their songs in honour of our fallen service men and women to help create the Legacy Songs Badge, Money raised from the Legacy Songs Badge campaign will be donated to Legacy. A touching tribute I think you will all agree.

I was thrilled to meet Urthboy and Traksewt from The Herd to speak with them about Legacy Song Badge and share our thoughts on this worthy cause.

The artists are Jimmy Barnes, The Herd, Boy & Bear, Art vs. Science and Powderfinger.  They are all really powerful songs that have been either dedicated by people who’ve lost loved oneswho served for Australia, or from the artists themselves, dedicating the song because of their support for our Australian service men and women.

Telstra will launch the Legacy Songs Badge campaign as a very cool idea to raise funds for Legacy. You can either purchase one of the limited-edition MP3 ‘button badge’ for $15 while stocks last, or download the virtual badge for $10.

Get involved and show your support the Telstra website.

  1. John Crane (Telstra Employee) says:

After 33 years with Telecom/Telstra, I will be leaving the organisation on Tuesday 6th Septerber, following site closure of Business Data Access and Performance in Brisbane
I believe I could be the last remaining Vietnam Veteran still working in Telstra
I joined Telecom in Septemeber 1978, after serving 9 years in the Australian Regular Army, with Royal Australian Corp of Signals, as a radio/telegraph/cyper technician
I retuned to Australia from Vietnam in November 1971

Pleasing to see Telstra sponsoring Legacy, for the tireless work they do with veteran families

    Regards

    John Crane

Good work Telstra! A very worthy cause and best of luck John :)

  3. My father worked as a Telecom technician for 27 years and missed the Vietnam draft by a day – the birthdate they called up was a day before his. He always used to joke that if he’d been drafted he probably would have ended up in a telephone exchange in Saigon. He said he liked working in Nowra, NSW a lot better. Great to see Telstra supporting legacy, and kudos for getting such a great range of acts involved.
