New app brings unmetered content to Next G Androids

telstraone-mainpost

This week we’re launching a new app for Android smartphones and select tablets. It’s called TelstraOne and it brings news, sports and weather feeds direct to your Android homescreen. TelstaOne content is unmetered on the Telstra Next G® network.

The app taps into Android’s customisable DNA to provide a set of widgets for news, sport, weather and data usage that can be placed on any of your phone and tablet homescreens. We hope that it will be really handy for owners of our new and existing Android devices.

BigPond News and BigPond Sports widgets

TelstraOne allows you to set up unmetered news feeds on your smarpthone homescreen via widgets. You can set up a general news widget or a general sports widget. Or, if you’re interested in receiving specific news categories, such as Entertainment, or a particular sport – say NRL — you can set up a widget dedicated to serving up this content (we call these BigPond News Mini and BigPoind Sports Mini widgets). You can access these just like any other Android widget by long-pressing on your homescreen and selecting the widget option.

Weather forecasts delivered to your homescreen

Telstra One for AndroidTelstraOne includes two handy weather widgets. You can choose from a widget that shows at a glance a city’s four-day forecast — or a smaller widget that simply shows the current temperature.

Data use at a glance
For the first time we’ve making it really easy for people to see at a glance how much of their included data they’ve consumed. The TelstraOne My Account widget is a simple bar graphic displaying proportion of included data consumed and the number of days before the data allowance is refreshed.

By clicking on the My Account widget you can also access quick links to key account information including My Purchases, My Alerts and Pricing Information, as well as one-click dialling to both prepaid and post-paid customer service numbers.

Where to find it and how to install it

TelstraOne will be launched on the HTC Sensation, HTC Wildfire S and LG Optimus Black — all arriving in-store this week on the Telstra Next G® network. It will also feature on upcoming Android devices.

A number of our in-market devices already have a TelstraOne application link on them — and from this week if you have one of these phones, you can simply click on the TelstraOne icon and follow the prompts to install the full application from the Android Market.

For those of you using older Android phones or devices which have ported in from other carriers, we haven’t forgotten about you! If you open the Android Market with a Telstra SIM card in your device and search for “TelstraOne” and you will be able to download the current client to your device.

We’ve also recorded a quick YouTube video overview of the TelstraOne for Android, which you can check out. We’re really proud of the app, and hope you enjoy using it on your Android device.

We were told months and months ago that Telstra were fixing the Telstra One app for Xooms!

The widget is on the Xoom, has been since the day they were released but does zip, zilch, nothing, can’t be upgraded.

When will you have it working

    • Jeff says:

Thanks for the answer Telstra. Cat got your tongue on this subject has it, maybe someone from Mumbai knows the answer. Great service again! I think not!

  2. Keith says:

Would be nice if the small weather wwidget displayed my local weather rather than sydney weather…..

  3. Chris says:

No surprises there Jeff. Im still waiting for answers for a question i asked 6 months ago.

Keith i get the same thing. Im apparently living in Altona North. My old android phone (Optimus GT540) brought over from england tells me im actually where i am, but the Telstra phone insists where i am doesnt actually exist!

I had the same problem when I bought my HTC Sense. I had a few other minor queries so I went to the Telstra shop and all the problems were resolved. before the HTC I had a Nokia 3G, even that phone knew where I was.
Computers, Rockets, Satellites have glitches. We are in a fast-moving technological age, so be patient.
I knew where I was before phone locations were invented, I looked in the street directory.
I have never had a problem with Telstra, which started as PMG many moons ago.

    • Jeff says:

Clearly then you didn’t buy and contract an Xoom from them 12 months ago and fail to get any answers from them what so ever!!!!! The salespeople at the Telstra shop are sales people but after you buy a device they then have blanks for what they told you when selling the device to you like available upgrades of the operating system, 4G upgradable (Which Telstra now won’t do), and telling us about all about the wonders of the Telstra One app. which hasn’t worked since day one, and then the earlier, and by earlier I mean post over 6 months ago on this forum call it what you may that they would be getting the app working!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi. recently i have tried to subscribe to telstra afl live now. when i do this it re directs me to a new window with the error code cont002 and tells me to call telstra. i have a samsung galaxy s 2 and i no other people with the same phone who also get this message. do you no what this error code means?

  6. Jeff says:

Telstra, we are still waiting for an answer to my question of 20th January, re the non working Telstra one app on our Telstra/Motorola Xooms, and why we were told on this site last year that it would be working soon, YET STILL ISN’T??????

    • Jeff says:

I still don’t see an answer from Telstra from my question of 20th January as to why the Telstra one app on the xoom won’t work, but here is an even bigger laugh, you have through Telstra this week released the Xoom-2 and guess what, the Telstra One app is there alright, but guess what, it won’t work … Lol … Lol …Lol

  7. Jeff says:

I keep getting these satisfaction surveys from Telstra, I keep filling them in and pointing out the problems, but like asking here why an app on our Xooms doesn’t work, neither do the surveys either, because we never see any improvements or answers.
Dose anyone from Telstra actually read these posts, dose anyone from Telstra actually care or try to live up to all the promotional hype about customers service and satisfaction, it would appear not.

  8. russell says:

Agree, i would rather it not be there , than having sydney as the default.

  9. Gregory Opera says:

What’s happening with an update or upgrade to this application?

It’s been nearly twelve months and still the application has not been updated or upgraded to support pre-paid data usage, despite repeated claims by Telstra that this is coming!

My understanding is that certain devices also have major operational issues with this application, yet the application still has not been updated…

    • Jeff says:

Good post Greg, but I’m afraid it will fall on deaf ears and blind eyes at Telstra. I’ve been trying to answers for months about the Telstra One app on our Telstra Xooms which dose nothing won’t update etc., after having been told that it would. Seems all Telstra can do is play with fancy colors and tell us what a wonderful job they are doing, yet the reality is we are being dudded.

  10. Chris says:

Try reading the rest of the comments on this page.

Its clearly NOT supported by Telstra and they have no intention what so ever of updating it.

I would also suggest not bothering to wait for Telstras version of Android 4 as its almost a guarantee that they arent going to bother supporting that unless the phone comes with it.

  11. David says:

Have had a Galaxy s2 for 4 months now. The TelstaOne app worked for maybe 2 weeks since when….NOTHING (except weather). The main function to show usage neither works directly and cannot even connect to the site http://waprd.telstra.com/redirect etc etc

It is useless. If Steve Baker is still the head man for this app, a comment from him would be appropriate and timely. If not, then whoever is should respond. It is so shoddy it beggars belief. If you cant get it to work then try and write an uninstaller that does work

  12. Jeff says:

When as promised, will this work on our Telstra 3G/WiFi Xooms. We had been told months and months and months ago that the useless widget that came standard on our Xooms would be up and running with this. How about an update please Telstra.

    • Gregory Opera says:

I’ve given up waiting Jeff, and I don’t expect to see an update or upgrade in the foreseeable future…

In about a month, the wife and I will be buying two new Sony “Xperia S” and I can tell you now, even if Telstra started selling it tomorrow, we’d still be buying the “generic” (non Telstra-branded) version from Mobicity!

After all, what’s the point of even having applications pre-installed and taking up valuable space if they don’t work or don’t work as designed and Telstra have no intention of updating them?
