GAME: One… POSITION: Centre Court…

The Telstra Netboys got their first taste of ‘wowing’ the crowds at the ANZ Netball Championship last Sunday in Sydney. And what a spectacular game to be a part of…I certainly was very proud of what we achieved in such a short time!
We literally came together the week before to start work shopping this new idea. None of the boys had any netball training up their sleeves and well my background is in dance. Both commercial and film. But the one thing we all shared was a willingness to learn which in turn instantly bonded the boys as a group. The whole experience was very humbling and well how lucky am I! Getting to step into the world of Netball and put my own little spin on it as a dance performance!
So, at ¾ time these 5 very talented boys exploded onto centre court and performed a 60 second teaser I’d choreographed made up of ‘Netball skills’ fused with ‘high energy’ dance. I’d spent hours watching games, drills and warm up sessions so that I could include authentic netball moves into my choreography. Not an easy thing to do when I’m so used to jumping around in contemporary companies!
My motto for the boys on the day was “you never get a 2nd chance to make a 1st impression” and well judging from the energy around me throughout their performance, the Telstra Netboys certainly put on a show stopper that left everyone wanting more! Including me! It was really awesome to witness the audience reactions when they would see something familiar like a ‘goal blocking’ netball move that I had made into a dance step! There were lots of smiling faces after the show which I’d say is a great indication of a job well done by everyone!!! Go Team NetBoys!!!!
I am definitely excited about the position we are in right now… the possibilities for these boys are endless and the concept is certainly proving to be infectious.
I’d say it is the perfect recipe to create a ‘New Sensation’ in Netball!!!
Let’s get cooking!!!!!!!!!!
