Telstra calls for more women to step up
Filed under: career, Human Resources, Telstra CEO
Today is International Women’s Day – an occasion first marked in March 1911, beginning of a movement for equality, recognition and achievement.
On this day that is all about stepping up and making your mark, I call on more women to join the team at Telstra. It is absolutely critical to the success of our business that we attract diverse and talented people, and that means that we want to be gender diverse and inclusive as well.
To spread the word about working at Telstra, and particularly connect with women who might be thinking of joining us, we are marking International Women’s Day 2011 with the launch of our new Careers portal specifically designed for women.
Women at Telstra features our new employment brand for women, stories of some of our fantastic Telstra women from all levels of the business, video content and social-media links, information about policy, inclusive practice, our internal networks and external connections, and some good news about awards and recognition for our results so far. Importantly, Women at Telstra will also include the stories of 100 Inspiring Women at Telstra. Our first entry is by our Group Managing Director, Human Resources, Andrea Grant, who shares her own story of wisdom, courage, compassion and joy.
So, take a look around the site, be inspired, tell your friends and think of Telstra for your next exciting career move.

I am attending an interview at Telstra today, so these comments are most heartening! I know I will enjoy looking at the new site.
Mr. Thodey;
Really appreciate your forward looking thinking. I would just like to ask you if you would have similar views on say “World Disability Day’ that Telstra should hire more Physically Challenged blokes to. I myself am a paraplegic and have been so for over 30 years and work for a Telecom company like yours but let me share with you in the 13 year odd corporate career never have I found any large corporate organisation willing to hire paraplegics like me. Its been a audacious struggle to get where I am today (Sr. Manager – Marketing). But I do at times feel that I want to work for different organisations to get the diversity to my experience. I’m sure if that day would come but I continue to remain hopeful and work towards it. I be eager to read your comments on this one.Regards
Hi Paraleo, Thanks for sharing your experience and for comment here. I’ve forwarded this to the Office of the CEO and will have a response for you soon. Brendan.
Hi Brendan;
While I thank you for your quick response at the same time I’m not surprised at not having received any response even as almost a month has passed.rgs
Hi Paraleo, I’ve followed this up for you this morning and thank you for your patience. I hope to have a response for you from Mr. Thodey soon. Brendan
