Telstra have a very good network & uncoming LTE is great news as 4g handsets are already turning up so hopefully something decent when LTE active. be good if companies take Apple & Nokia's (N8 & E7) pentaband lead so do not have to 1. wait for updates from telstra 2. not pay past market rates i.e Nokia N8 $0 telstra $79 plan Optus/Voda/Virgin/3 $0 $49. while network is great (came from Optus) updates are not big T's strength e.g. brought a HTC TP2 and after tel Wm6.5 upgrade GPS was basically unusable ...would still be waiting 17 months later but hard spl'd and installed HTC generic rom and gps worked out of the box plus device was faster. may be wants but little in T Life store takes interest (that is... even if can test handsets e.g castle Hill nsw T life has plastic tie arround phones (a joke on anything with slide out keyboard eg Lg Optimus 7Q plus many do not even work) ... if telstra miss out on the next big thing ... dual core and 3g handsets they are going to fall further behind and even lose customers that came over when became more competative... would hate to be in the handset business but if in at least do correctly

Still waiting on the (incredibly minor) update for WP7 phones, Telstra!

If you take this long with a non-event update, I am quite afraid how long you will take with NoDo.

Everyone knows about your rubbish update process with WM and Android. I had hoped this would be rectified with WP7, but on current evidence that's just not happening.

This is a big enough issue for me to switch carriers. Get your game together and release the updates quickly.

You talk about the customer experience when your company is extremely slow when it comes to patching handset/releasing updates from manufacturers (WP7 and Android in particular). Get that sorted so Telstra's customers can have the most advanced experience available to them with the full feature set available to them with the handset they use. Your excuses referring to ongoing testing are complete rubbish. Just get it done.

If your 4G roll out is anything like your ability to keep your current networks next-g handsets up to date, the competition have little to worry about.

Why don't you look after those who have signed up with you on your next-g WP7 handsets by keeping up with your competitors ability to release updates?

We want that long before caring about upgrading to buggy non updated telstra 4g handsets.

At this point, I won't be sticking around as a customer long enough to care about Telstras LTE anyway.

"...The other key thing is that the experience of the smartphone user is becoming more and more important. So it’s both how quickly that file comes down and also the latency of getting to that website, or getting to that app. All the trials we’ve done on LTE have seen significant improvement in both latency and the efficiency of carrying data. Speed is one aspect, but overall, it’s about improving the customer experience."

And yet Mr Thodey - your company FAILS on this count for the very first WP7 software update. Networks around the world manage to have this out by end of FEB 2011 - and Telstra advise a vague "Mid March" date.

Hardly a sign of a business living the vision it wishes to espouse.

SOME OF DAVID THODEYS COMMENTS
Telstra is recognised at the congress as being one of the great innovators, given the many world first achievements we’ve had with the Next G™ network, including the rollout of HSPA+ Dual Channel technology. Another big topic at Barcelona was the growth of mobile internet. All the operators are seeing tremendous demand.
All in all there is a very real sense of optimism in the industry, which is very different to last year. Operators are now seeing great opportunity and it is largely being driven by the growing demand for data.

David if there was no profits or future growth for wireless Telstra would not be proceeding with wireless broadband.
So I am left wondering if you can supply ADSL so much cheaper, how come it is cheaper for Telstra to only make available wireless, instead of giving those customers what they asked for, a fixed line ADSL, what a contradiction!! Telstra could not provide me with a port, even though I once had adsl where I live? every one in the village where I live has ADSL, to me it seems that it was cheaper for Telstra to only make available Wireless, at my fixed place of use, I did not ask for or seek mobile internet, for me this is an excuse for you to justify making us pay more for a lot less.

We all know Telstra has the best network in Australia and it’s great to see Telstra has not become complacent and is still working tirelessly in enhancing this great network.
Thank-you Telstra
