Flood Update No 9 from Telstra

Author: John Parkin. Telstra will deploy Cells on Wheels (portable mobile towers) to Rocklea, Hill End and Fairfield Gardens to improve mobile coverage in these areas.

Telstra’s priority for restoration today focuses on residential faults, restoring flood affected mobile base stations and damaged roadside cabinets.

On the highway out of Tamworth town

I hit the hot tarmac at Tamworth airport at 5pm last night and right away you know you are in the country – no air-bridges and a stroll from the plane to a terminal that still employs a gardener to greet you with herbaceous borders of trimmed hedges and lush floral foliage. That and a taxi driver who looked at me as if I was a brick short of a load when I asked if he needed to check my Google map to my motel.

Telstra takes part in Oprah’s Ultimate Australian Adventure

When “Oprah’s Ultimate Australian Adventure” came to town last month, Telstra was there to lend a helping hand. Our job was to provide access to the Telstra Next G network, ensure the “Oprah” show audience members got the most out their Motorola Defy handsets and do everything possible to make sure the crew associated with the trip could stay connected.

Vic/Tas flood update No 1 from Telstra

Flood levels continue to rise in the Horsham area with the river expected to peak in the next few hours .
We have been told it is forecast around 100 homes will be flooded. We have been in contact through the day with the Horsham Incident Control Centre and the latest flood level forecast maps still show our exchange should be OK. Our local staff are working closely with the SES and watching it all this evening.

Flood update No 7 from Telstra

In the last 24 hours we have seen further restoration of landline, broadband and Foxtel services in and around Brisbane, with more power being turned on and more of the network being repaired. We have also had further restoration of mobile towers, which is improving coverage in and around Brisbane.

Flood Update No 6 from Telstra

Author: John Parkin. Telstra restoration works are progressing well. We continue to repower, repair and restore network sites wherever possible so that more customers can be connected. Power, access to our sites, and damage by flood waters to our infrastructure continues to be the biggest challenge in repairing our network.
