Netball Australia has joined forces with Telstra

Hey all netball fans. I’m just loving the fact that Netball Australia has joined forces with Telstra. My family and friends all live in Western Australia, and I played in Adelaide before joining the Melbourne Vixens, so have some followers there, but now, they’ll all be able to see the major netball games on Telstra’s BigPond media channels.

It’s huge news – don’t know all the details yet but expecting that this means you’ll be able to watch all the big games online this year, including our Test matches online and also ANZ Championship matches.

Speaking of which, we are all busy training and preparing for the ANZ Championship season that starts early this year cause of World champs in July. I can’t wait to get out on court with the Vixens – definitely a bonus to have been in Jamaica with captain Sharelle and had a bit of court and training time with her over the summer.

I know our sport is huge – about one million people play – but I have really noticed how much the sport is growing and how people are so into it now. They really know the ANZ Championships players and are passionate about their teams. If this Telstra deal means we get more fans on board then its very exciting.

We do plenty of school and netball clinics through the Vixens – always great to see the young girls who dream of being a Diamonds or an ANZ Championship player – so it’s good that Telstra is also doing the grass roots stuff, with the Assistance Fund and Affinity Program. It means this deal is great for everyone, no matter where they are playing.

I’ve seen the BigPond site and it’s pretty cool that we will be up there with some of the big boys of sport! We are the second biggest participation sport in Australia after all so we should be right up there! But nice to see that Telstra is recognising us.

Off to training now but can’t wait to see how this all pans out … I’d love to write again, maybe after a successful ANZ Champs season – let’s hope so!

Great to see Telstra sponsoring the netball. Bring on the ANZ Championship for 2011 and go Swifts.

well lets hope that as part of this sponsorship deal there is more promotion of netball to the masses, and I’m just not talking about making netball attractive to males by making the sport ‘sexier’.
It’s a sport as athletic as NRL or AFL, yet as a female sport, the athletes get paid nothing to train virtually f/t and represent their country whilst barely covering personal costs.
Lets hope this venture promotes netball so that it is covered on the nightly news and in papers as more than a 1 line article next to the horse racing results.

  3. It’s just nice to see the profile of Netball growing – it’s such a great sport to both play and watch, it deserves far more credit and coverage than it has had so far. Hopefully this is just the start…
