You asked for it…line dancing
Filed under: country, country music awards, Tamworth, Telstra Road to Tamworth
As the last strains of slide guitar echo in the Tamworth hills, and the sun rises through the rain at Level 39 in Melbourne, it is a heavy footed return to the office for me.
Talking about feet…before I sign off, here’s one last look back at a phenomenon my colleagues in HQ have been asking for all week…where’s the boot scooting, Lunda?
There was line dancing – they prefer to call it that – about. Classes throughout the day, workshops, socials, for beginners and advanced practitioners, mostly women, who say they enjoy the chance to dance without having to lever Dad off the couch.
I was lucky enough to catch one of Australia’s leading line dancing tutors, Gordon Elliott, putting a class through their paces – and it is way more difficult than it looks.
The McClymonts wrapped it up good at the Golden Guitars on Saturday night, talking out Group of the Year Award for the fourth time in a row, and The Sunny Cowgirls, Sophie and Celeste Clabburn, won the Telstra Horizon Award. Go gels!
You can catch the Awards show on Channel Ten at 2-4pm this Saturday afternoon, 29 Jan, complete with a performance by Telstra Road to Tamworth winner Harry Hookey. It will be interesting to see how they handle the mix-up where the wrong envelope resulted in Lee Kernaghan being “awarded” the Golden Guitar for Album of the Year instead of Graeme Connors, the real winner.
Tamworth strums on – Keith Urban is arriving on 12 April, to perform in the town that launched his career – tickets sold out in three hours. Keith has won nine Golden Guitars, and was named Toyota Star Maker of the Year in 1990.
So ‘til next year. it’s good bye from me, with thanks to G, my video editor, Sam & Rachael from the sponsorship team for making it all happen, and the Telstra Exchange backup dancers.
Y’all come back now here!
